Simon Holgerson Runs 7.044 in VW (And now a 6.96@198!!!)
dangerous - June 12th, 2005 at 10:30 AM

Is this the quickest ever VW bodied car ?
Sixes will come, because the 7.044 pass was a back-off to
148mph from a 153.38 at half track and a 1.073, 60foot time.
Unfortunately he still broke out on a 7.15 dial in.

Yeah, sounds like a VW bodied altered to me - blown big block chev.....

Still, I guess its*kinda* flying the VW flag !

Very nicely prepped car, but I think I agree with 71. I was hoping for something with a boxer of some sort.

dangerous - June 14th, 2005 at 06:11 PM

Simon is actually a real Volksie fan.
Actually it has more VW parts in that car than the number one car on the Forum Drag Times list.

Doug Sweetman - June 14th, 2005 at 06:25 PM

How so Dave ? Is the Automanics Razor front engined as well ?

dangerous - June 14th, 2005 at 06:42 PM

Yep!

i think you'll find there isn't, we have several hundred vw parts on the car including the original steel bodyshell!

and it has the right number of (aircooled) cylinders pushing it along too!:P

71superbug - June 29th, 2005 at 10:23 AM

yeah to me that "bug" looks like the only similarities there are.

it has struts up front.. and the same shape wind screen.

Doug Sweetman - June 29th, 2005 at 10:35 AM

oi, my bug has struts up front too !!!!:party

71superbug - July 2nd, 2005 at 01:57 PM

Simon has runa six at the Winters. But this wheely photo is pretty cool,
and an excuse to ytry out the photo bucket skills.

malcolm - August 9th, 2006 at 12:17 PM

thats a great shot:thumb

dragvw2180 - August 9th, 2006 at 12:35 PM

not only pulled a wheely, but also did it with the back tire toooooooooooo! I don't want to drive it,hahahaha

Stanley - August 9th, 2006 at 12:49 PM

Regardless of the engine everyone identifies it with being a VW beetle.

That has to be good for all of us.

Nice to see he has sorted it out...early days it used to spend more time sideways.

71superbug - August 9th, 2006 at 01:42 PM

but is it good for us that it is recognised as a vw beetle, laymen could always compare REAL volksie drag cars against that.

stuff like

"oh that 10 seconds was nothing to that one with the v8"

all in all...great effort in the quick pass and glad he is doing it in a vw shell :P)

The only disaster was his sump and engine plate.
The sump had forged ribs in it from the crank and rods inside, after crashing into the ground.
Engine plate was aluminium and was a little warped from trying to
restrain an iron big block Chev engine after a sudden halt.

Doug Sweetman - August 10th, 2006 at 10:34 AM

Hey Dave, if this ran 7.04 at 150 odd and 6.98 at 190odd mph, what do you think it ultimately has in it ?

dangerous - August 10th, 2006 at 12:00 PM

Simon wants to be in the fives.
Current engine prob has mid sixes at 210 to 215mph.
People at the drags know that it is not a VW engine by its sound as you can imagine.
The real Volksies always get appreciated for their achievements.
