Bug_racer - September 1st, 2005 at 11:04 PM

Id like to get an idea on how many cars will be running next year . I was a bit disapointed in the turnout this year . I know even my main car wasnt ready (bloody immobilizer !) but I still rocked up in the spare care and :thumb for Dave for organising it . Hoping for 150 cars but its a big ask , but maybe , just maybe we might get lucky

t2 - September 2nd, 2005 at 07:45 PM

will be there in the bus, dont expect any competion from it though:beer
i was disapointed with the turn out this year aswell but i must admitt i got there just before lunch and most dubs were broke by then
i also think the comentators were useless , those guys were good with what they know about but we need a dub comentator that knows about most of the dubs like penrose , cranky etc so people get alittle bit of insight to what is pushing them along , not just look its a bug gee it went 9 seconds must know herbie blah blah blah.

the highlight or one of the highlights was the debate when some mullet said 2 litres only come in milk cartons, the response from a proud smart dub owner was 5 litres only come in cheap wine lol that was a good one nn[ Edited on 2-9-2005 by t2 ]

I think especially for people travelling from afar (Brissy for example), there needs to be a definite committment of date and class details. Its a long way to travel to not race, and even to organise time off work you need notice. I know there must be so much behind the organisation of such an event, but I think confirmation of details has to happen sooner rather than closer to the event. :tu:

Bug_racer - September 6th, 2005 at 11:18 PM

I'm hoping a better response from the air cooled guys otherwise this will be a water cooled dominated event

HEL-70Y - September 20th, 2005 at 03:40 PM

I'll be there again =) can't wait

Bug_racer - September 20th, 2005 at 11:41 PM

Good to see one person has committed to the event . I'll be there too , even if I'm not in the fastest car I'll always try and be there :punk:

vw54 - September 21st, 2005 at 08:24 AM

I will be ther too

vwfastback - September 21st, 2005 at 05:04 PM

For us interstaters, the Nats has to be over a national long weekend at least to make the trip.
From Melbourne it is not feasible to tow a car up on Saturday to race on Saturday night and drive home Sunday. Easter is good.

Would love to come this year, I have a new set of tyres to destroy.....

I'll be there if it is on...but I need 3 months notice.

Can I second this, Easter or a Saturday is much much better for me. Asking people to drive home interstate Sunday night is a recipe for trouble.

BTW, I know you guys worked hard this year to get any kind of drag day...keep up the hard work. :thumb

13BVW - September 25th, 2005 at 07:10 PM

i put my hand up to make the drive down from bris(and hopefully make the drive back) missed this year due to gearbox malfunction:sniffle:

Bug_racer - September 26th, 2005 at 11:53 AM

Its good to see some responses , makes it all worth it at the end of the day . Hopefully we can get 50+ cars next year . I'm working on it :smirk:

VDubya - October 7th, 2005 at 07:50 PM

Dream on when you can't even get a top 50 times up on the forum, and with all the BS with trophies, scandle and the likes.

Ask yourself one thing, this year the purpose built VW race cars wern't even entered in the Nationals. They entered the Drag Combat.

What does that tell you.

lohoon - October 7th, 2005 at 09:03 PM

I haope to be there an have a couple a mates putting hot motors together that are keen to race.

I believe that the purpose built race cars that you refer to only entered the drag combat to chase the prize money . I believe that there was $2000 up for first place and $500 for second . Don't blame them , if I had spent as much money on my car as they have I would do the same .

Maybe this is a wake-up call for the organisers , they should step-up and include some form of prize money for these guys as they have outlayed enormous amounts of money for the enjoyment of the VW spectators . And afterall this is supposed to be our national event ?
:jesus

Bug_racer - October 9th, 2005 at 10:59 AM

I was ready and willing to put down prize money , even talked to Dave Birchal about it but you guys need to start bringing your cars to these events . As for the top 50 AIR COOLED CARS , who said anything about me organising air cooled cars to turn up . I'm a watercooled boy and I'm trying to get later model cars into the whole VW scene . Why then cant the top 50 be changed from air cooled to just Vag cars ?:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

kroozzn63 - October 9th, 2005 at 11:16 AM

ill be there "fairfield " yeah?

Thats not what I heard, maybe someone should talk to them and not asume, its not always about money or trophies. Maybe its the politics and BS involved, maybe these guys will race regardless of if its a VW event or not it just depends on what event it is.

The beauty of the internet....people with teeny weeny testicles can pop off to their hearts content with no fear of actual confrontation.

Bug_racer - October 10th, 2005 at 08:00 AM

Everyone gets found out eventually .

Anyway would be good to see if more people come next year . I think I'll sit down with Dave and see if we can work out a prize system .

VDubya - October 10th, 2005 at 08:52 AM

All I'm doing is pointing out that people take what they hear and read for granted without getting their info from the sorce, and then you don't truly know if its true(thats what I've been told anyway).

As for prize systems, if people are drawn to an event purely for money and trophies instead of recognition and respect it would turn the event into somthing that people will do anything to win instead of doing the best they can and enjoying the day and atmosphere of having a group of people with a common interest. Don't take the fun out of it.

Hey shifty:ninja:

Bug_racer - October 10th, 2005 at 09:47 AM

And how many cars turned up this year ?

dangerous - October 10th, 2005 at 06:46 PM

Every racer has different reasons for running their cars.
None of them are wrong in their own eyes.
Anyone with a purpose built car is not going to run only one meeting in the year.
Some have as much as $100,000 dollars (or more!) invested
in their chosen form of racing because it is fun....and that is the priority.
Secondary priorities for me are "recognition and respect", "enjoying the day & atmosphere"
and yes, the "money and trophies" are nice too.
Some racers have agenda's that have a priority that is different to this...and that is cool.
And to be frank, if there is some money coming my way to turn up,
that can be the difference as to wether I travel 1000km each way to run my car.
I love to tinker with my car and can do that at my home track,
but if the promoters want bums on seats, they need to put on a show
and encourage the racers to turn up....whatever
the incentive is. ( money, glory, trophies, records, atmosphere, respect or just plain old fun.)

Bug_racer - October 10th, 2005 at 07:45 PM

That is all true , but I think the fun factor is gone now that we ran in drag combat . I really dont like mixing in with Jap cars . If anything we should hire the track with BMW and porsche or something .

Jak Rizzo - October 11th, 2005 at 05:59 AM

I'm with the NSW Porsche club & those guys are not interested in drag racing. 99.9% of them have not done the 1/4 mile & have no intention to. Not that I am really interested either but I still love entering the vw nats.
regards
Jak

dangerous - October 11th, 2005 at 06:39 AM

Drag combat no longer exists, so if you want to hire the track,
you may be shocked at the cost.....Dave will tell you,
that is why it was run under the drag combat banner.
Yeah, I dont think the other Euro car fans think dragracing is sophisticated enough!
But that is cool, cause I like to race more than once a year so I'll race any one.

vw54 - October 11th, 2005 at 07:00 AM

yeah it would be good if we could get all the other European Car Marques to race with us then we could hire the track out right ourselfs

We need to involve the Porsche, Merc, BMW, Audis and others

The track is Rather expensive to hire

LOWBUG - October 12th, 2005 at 11:00 AM

C'mon Dave exactly how much, I know about $8000.00 has been mentioned in the past.

vw54 - October 12th, 2005 at 11:10 AM

add another 20 to it
