I think Chris Fraser (one of the original Woolongong Wizards!) did 14's in his Bay back in the 90's....Maybe he'll see this post at some point.....

wacked1 - September 19th, 2005 at 11:05 AM

quickcamper runs 12.?? sec (low to mid)
13b turbo

Doug Sweetman - September 19th, 2005 at 11:07 AM

He supplied a couple of time slips in the Aussieveedubbers top 50 - and you're right Simon, they were in the 14's

71EJVan - September 20th, 2005 at 02:37 PM

I wonder what my early Bay Van with a stock EJ20T & 091 box would do.

vwtyp2 - September 20th, 2005 at 06:59 PM

vwrx's ej20t T25 auto ran a 15.99

humpty - September 20th, 2005 at 09:21 PM

We need some pics....all well and good talking about it!...Come on you bus guys!

Fossil - September 26th, 2005 at 01:39 PM

be interetsing to see Brendan

71EJVan - September 26th, 2005 at 03:02 PM

The EJ20T from Belgium in the conversion section is suppose to do 14.5s.
VWRXs is a full camper, so the 15.9 is very respectable.

Check here for some Kombi action from the recent Jamboree in Qld.

oldschool64bus - October 15th, 2005 at 07:02 PM

humpty - October 27th, 2005 at 06:34 PM

humpty your a legend to still have it:beer

humpty - October 27th, 2005 at 10:15 PM

Cheers Doc....Glad you like....

I have the whole story in a very cool old mag bought 20 odd years ago.. Makes for a very good read....There's loads of other cool stuff in the mag...Pete Keegans drag car in a few of its forms, the 'Yo, Yo' Drag car that gave Pete a hurry up for the record, a T-Bucket Volksrod and all sorts of other VW & BMC stuff...

amazer - October 28th, 2005 at 09:36 AM

That bus has helium front tyres. How can they lift that high and run the same times as me? I have heard a rumour of a photo where at willowbank I got a millimetre or 2 of air under a front wheel but havent seen it.

I only dragged over the quarter twice, once in this pic at Willowbank with the old injection that was mid high 15's. Then one other time at the old uphill eastern creek with then 'new' injection when it ran high 14's all day with a 14.6 fluked in somewhere. Slightly lower times were very possible if I had the money for dyno time to set up the injeection properly.

humpty - October 28th, 2005 at 11:58 AM

You should see the engine set-up in this thing!
301 cube Chevy donk sitting on the rear parcel shelf, driving forward to a Kombi reduction box, back to a DeSoto rear end!

Madness!

ryfoz - October 28th, 2005 at 12:48 PM

Do you think it possible to break 14's in a kombi maintaining a VW gearbox and rear mounting?
Doesnt sound possible from what has already been posted......

humpty - October 28th, 2005 at 01:02 PM

A stock transaxle in a kombi is pretty tough, but no standard job will last to long with the HP/Tourque needed to get that ET.

As for mounting....A simple anwser is No...
In the standard bus the engine and trans moves way too much as it is... You will have to update both the engine and transaxle mounts...Its also a good idea to upgrade/renew the suspension bushes and mounts.

But that same goes for any performance upgrade...You cant just bolt in HP and go....It will break eventually and a lot sooner with stock bits, than with any hotrod bits...

BUS 23Q - November 13th, 2005 at 04:05 PM

I watched an early bay run 11.6 1/4 mile in US. 2332 turbo, kombi box solid mounted. Impressive.
It did however only manage it twice!

humpty - November 16th, 2005 at 12:00 AM

Bloody hell!....what sorta power that thing must have....And what sorta weight it must be! Love to see some vid of it.....Could you tell at which track this took place and which event?
