humpty - October 27th, 2005 at 10:50 PM

I got more....

1303Steve - October 27th, 2005 at 11:12 PM

Hi

They are priceless.

Doesn’t shit you that journalists always start a VW story with a barb about Hitler. You never read about what Nissan, Toyota, Subaru etc did during WW2.

Steve

humpty - October 27th, 2005 at 11:22 PM

And the thing is...They still do it! You should read the whole story...Brilliant stuff!

vw54 - October 28th, 2005 at 07:10 AM

I know all the secrets...and I am not silver either!
Just ask!
Well, not silver yet anyhow!

humpty - November 4th, 2005 at 12:29 PM

Yeah...I was going to say just ask Dave.....But Dave beat me to it! Ya never know your luck Pete...Ol'D might still have a bolt or 2 of that ol' PK donk floating around!

:D

I think i might actually have a picture or 2 of that engine as it was, when it was in Daves posession... Four pipes out the back n'all!

pete wood - November 4th, 2005 at 05:12 PM

mmm, a blown motor with 4 straight exhausts. I remember when CBB first turned up with the cranky one at the Nats. Sounded like a freakin machine gun on the rev limiter!!:D

dangerous - November 4th, 2005 at 06:55 PM

Wouldn't mind seeing some of those photos!
Post 'em here if you want...it's kind of relevant.
I actually have some old soundless footage of the Camel
car at Surfers Raceway from about '73 I think.
It is on a tape called"Wheels Of Fire" produced in Sydney
by the Shepard's I think.
The tape was purchased thru Dragster Australia Mag.

humpty - November 5th, 2005 at 01:08 AM

I'll C what i can do Dave...They're in storage...I'll track'em down...

humpty - November 5th, 2005 at 01:14 AM

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - February 27th, 2008 at 06:46 AM

2 things could happen to you Dangerous.... you could go "silver" or you could end up bald!!!! The way i look at it is you can't have hair and brains.....

Stanley - February 27th, 2008 at 07:33 AM

Nice camera angle....You'd swear it was running down hill

dangerous - February 27th, 2008 at 08:09 AM

Yes Oran park was very slightly down hill.

Plent of hairs and no "silver" yet.
I guess I have been fooling everyone.

matberry - February 27th, 2008 at 09:49 PM

I think I got video of that meet

London Bugger - March 17th, 2008 at 04:18 AM

Was Peters car really the fastest VW in the world back then??? What were the numbers?

We hear very little about the Oz VW scene here in the UK and even less of the history, its all SO CAL etc but its nice to see whats happened and happening else where!

Cheers,
Rob.

dangerous - March 17th, 2008 at 08:55 AM

Yes thats right.
It WAS the fastest at various times
until Bob McClure ran into the nines with his turbo bug, in the late '70s.

Peter ran a best of 10.29 and ran as fast as 140mph.
All evidence points toward him being the first into the 10's.

The only other contender was Bill Mitchell
who is the director & founder of 'World Products' on the east coast of the USA.

He ran into the 10's around the same time, but refuses to discuss anything VW,
so until the dynosoars return, Peter Keegan was the man.

Wow thats amazing times for the 70's great reading on the other thread.

Bill Mitchell now does hipo V8 stuff, I spoke to one of his staff as Bill Mitchell Hardcore Racing and he said Bill was quiet about the VW stuff and cut up one of the thunder bugs so no one else could have it :( such a shame I think Thunder Bug was one of my all time favorites!

Petes cars were good looking bugs, Great to see the camel bug is getting put back to it former glory!
Love Petes Thunderbug too what happened to that?

Cheers,
Rob.

dangerous - March 17th, 2008 at 04:31 PM

Pete's thunder bug was chopped to make the Camel Car.
I recall the story was the roof was damaged on the train on its way back from racing in Perth in 1971.

OZ Towdster - March 17th, 2008 at 09:06 PM

I gather the number 31 car is your current drag car now ???
