After a year away from the track we finally got the car sorted with some fuel map and timing adjustments, all set for another try.
First run off the trailer the beetle ran a 12.200 at 110.15MPH. with a 1.676 second 60 foot time and 90MPH at half track. This is about 3MPH up on
our previous best runs last year!!
Hopefully with cooler air and some suspension adjustments we might just get that eleven yet!! This run was with 28.4 C air temp.
Adam Debiasi was also running well with his last 2 runs for the night in the 12.2's at around 108 MPH. This was in his brown bug with T4 power. His
sister Michaela was also running well with consistant 14.4's. in her Manx.
You guys kick ass
That's awesome news Dave!
Let us know all the details....tranny ratios, shift points,
dyno figures!
What rpm was the power and torque peaks at?
Good half track speed! What ET at half?
Good on Adam and Michaela for running fast and
getting their Volksies out there!
Well done David,
I thought your car was fast when I saw you dip in to the 12's. I know that you will get in to the 11's. It is not that far away.
Congratulations to Adam as well, low 12's in a daily driver is impressive.
James C.
pardon my ignorance but is this over 1/4 or 1/8 mile track?
Adelaide has a 1/4 mile track.
SWEET AS, great effort.
Cheers guys and thanks Dan for posting the pics.
Dave I'm still running the same 4.125 R&P with a 1.48 third and 1.04 fourth. The puts me over the finish line at around 6100 RPM with the 26"
slicks (not ideal). Funds permitting I'll freshen up the gearbox next year and change 3rd and 4th to closer ratios.
H.P peaks at an early 5500RPM and stays flat until 7000+.
The actual HP seems to vary from dyno to dyno anything from 157 up to a max of 180 with the fanbelt off at the wheels.
Shift point is just over 7000 for first to second and around 7000 for the rest. Saturday night however I seemed to hit the revlimiter in 1st which is
set at 8000 (those gearchanges come up fast and I'm a bit rusty!!) Better check those tappets!!!
Eighth mile time was 7.758@90MPH which should get me into the 11's according to the Maroso ruler but I think the gears are holding me back, what do
you think?
PS Dave and Craig thanks for all your advice over the years!!
Thanks for the info Dave.
I am guessing that (with slicks hey?) that there is
another tenth in the 60' and all up, atleast
another tenth by half track with shorter 3rd
and 4th ratios...how were you leaving the start?
Have you a guess on the weight?
Dave Beckers '68 was 1850lbs I think.
Craig and I are always keen to hear progress.
Well Done Dave & Adam - It was great to see you beat those crappy Japanese cars.....
Graeme
Yeah great work guys, shame you couldn't get a few more runs in. Too many cars it seemed to take forever for the VW's to come out. I only got a
coupla pics but also a couple of vids of burnouts & leaving the line. File sizes are pretty big about 50mb, how would I get them up on here??
Lets see some 11's boys, stick with it!!
Great result, thats some mighty high revs.
It may be ignorance on my part, but if the power curve
is flat from 5.5k - 7k and it can hold together (thats the really impressive part)
till 8k - then a hotter cam could gain you heaps more by
powering right through to at least 7k.
Anyway , that is fantastic , you certainly built/ designed a good
motor. Those launches must be unreal !
Dave, submit your 12.2 the top 20 on cal-look.com with the times up on there at the moment you'll leap up to about 8th I think it was...an Aussie in the top 10
Well done Doc....Bloody hell man...I remember when you had just dragged the heads back from your US trip!...Keep at it, you'll get there!...
On another note....
Is that the slacker Mr Britcher in the background?...Did he run his Panelvan!
Quote: |
Yeah...everytime Aaron and i 'chat' he throws me another story why its not run...might have someting to do with his 'bug' projects, his vespa or
that bloody Alfa or Fiat or whatevery it was!...Did he get that Targa?
So anyway...Those times your running....Very good to see. Wish we had something like that runninig ova here! Great work Dave...Keep it up! And do
update the Cal-Look.com post, even if you are running a bit more technology under the lid!
