Went for a cruise with Wibble to show him what 6-7lb boost on a 2332 can do... He happened to bring along the video camera to capture the moment.

http://www.cairns.net.au/~vwturbo/video/2332/NightCruise.avi

The run is for about a 1/4 mile I think, but was mainly to accelerate up to 100mph. I did a slow rolling start cause the road surface was crap and I don't want to shread my tyres or loose traction.

awsome-thanx Ian, thought something like this might turn up:D

can't wait to see what 1stcarbug thinks of it.:P

oohhh i can see it and certainly hear it (real player 10)

forth gear is nice and tall, that fourth in the fith position with a different ratio forth would be way cool! not that pushing it along seems toooo hard.

thanx again ian.when can we expact more boost?

Yes 4th is pretty tall being a 1.04 with a 3.88 diff and the 17" wheels, but the problem is more to do with the 1.48 3rd gear. The box is really designed for a naturally aspirated engine that revs past 7000. I'll probably be changing into 4th on the 8th mile when I go racing with this tranny. For the 1/4 mile 4th is good because at about 5700 rpm i'll be doing just shy of 200k's which will mean 1/4's in the low 12's when in street tune and trim.

I'll be looking at something in the 1.3's to replace 3rd when I get my new tranny.

As for more boost, 10-12lb which sill be the max for the street will see tyres being fried in 2nd in straight line acceleration. With this engine i'll be using electronic boost control, and will be experimenting with boost at RPM and/or boost at road speed to ensure I don't loose traction.

Max boost with this engine is about 18lb. I'd need an alloy case, 10mm head studs, the new gt2832-370hp turbo (arriving soon) and a flanged crank to go higher than that. I didn't build it to make silly hp figures though, its meant to be very drivable and reliable. I can cruise at 60k's in top gear at 1800 rpm and its happy to do that all day, but it still makes great power from about 2400-6000.

SWEET DUDE!

Put a smile on my face similar to when I went for a spin with you last year at the airport. Bet Wibble was impressed....first time for a ride in your car?

Now to get mine on the road :thumb

pete wood - January 5th, 2006 at 10:50 AM

Amazing stuff, but please tell me you weren't doing 160kmh in a 60 zone?

When does it get the first trip down the quarter?

No it wasn't a 60 zone...

We flew the car over to new zealand for the night, found a quiet road did about 2k's drive and flew back. I wouldn't break any laws!

Yes it was Wibble's first time in the car.

It will get a trip down the 1/8th mile next time they do another drag event up this way, which is hopefully within a few months. At the moment the nearest 1/4 mile strip is about 4 hours drive away in townsville (8hrs return trip). I'm sure i'll end up down there one day but not for a while.

bajachris88 - January 9th, 2006 at 09:26 PM

how did you go with the legalalities and all on the engine mod? All good and easy?

btw, noice stuff. :thumb

2443TT - January 9th, 2006 at 09:42 PM

I've had all my modifications approved for a year or two now. I've got two mod plates that cover 4 wheel disc conversion, suspension, wheel track, seat belts, seats, turbo and one other code I can't remember.

Granted at the time of the approval it had only 1 radiator, and no intercooler but you don't need a plate to add more. Its now got 5 radiators in all, electric coolant pumps and oil pump, 3 thermo fans... the list goes on....
