HotRodMatt - May 7th, 2006 at 11:23 AM

Spotted this last night at a Nostalgia/Drag/Rod Reunion.
Photo taken by Garry Hudson when he was a starter at Castlereagh Drags in the late 60s.

More stuff from the night later on... what a cool evening. Names like Honeywell, Fontain, Keegan, Preen...
Thousand of photos, video, memoriablia and even the last remains (just the bucket) of Chuck May's "The Outcast".

How mad is the footage of the first Top Fuel passes with five guys running along push starting the rails!

I was just looking at the roll bar height and an imaginary line drawn dow to the front rollover. below the steering wheel. In event that this thing fell over, this dude would have a seriously ground off forehead LMAO

I'm sure the white overalls and sandshoes would have helped him the event of an accident!

Love the fuel tank mounted right in front of the cooling fan inlet...coz that's real safe...yeah right.

Hawhawhawhaw dude I know thats bad and Im certain there were many more horrors to be seen.
The stuff racers got away with in days gone bay is laughable.

My first Formula Vee was an old ('68) Elfin. it actually had a rollbar.
The rollhoop was made from 1" thin walled furniture tubing and sat about 3" BELOW my helmet line.
At some time in the cars life, some bright spark added some gal waterpipe around the original rollhoop.......gee that must have helped a lot LMAO.
That was par for the course tho. In them days, they were probably more interested in protecting the car in a rollover, rather than the drivers!!!!!!
