ColumBUS - May 14th, 2006 at 01:44 AM

holy sh!t
that is insane, i want one...
has anyone got the specs to this car? how quick did it run the quarter? and who drove it?

Scarlet - May 14th, 2006 at 07:12 AM

From the 60's?!!!!...it WOULD be interesting to see how they set it up

dangerous - May 14th, 2006 at 12:00 PM

I have a magazine that featured that care before this when it was just a drag car and not a wheel stander.
At that stage it was 1600cc with holden carbs on methanol and ran in the 13s @100mph in 1965.
In those photos he had moved the drive train forwards for better wheelies.
Will try to scan and post the story if I can find it.
George Stewart was the hell-guy's name.

dangerous - May 14th, 2006 at 12:05 PM

Was the fastest any sedan had covered the quarter in 1965 in Australia, except for the big hemi Ramchargers that were imported for exhibition, running mid twelves.

Menangler - May 14th, 2006 at 06:55 PM

It is also on the cover of Dec 1968 Hot Rod Magazine

hypo-vw - May 16th, 2006 at 12:10 AM

dragbug - May 16th, 2006 at 06:50 PM

Thats whats its all about!

Doug Sweetman - May 16th, 2006 at 07:27 PM

did I read that mag article right.... four SU carbs ? its a bit fuzzy so maybe I got it wrong, but man that would be a wild setup.....

I love that people werent afraid to do things differently in the 60's....

Nice footage Matt, thanks for the photos Dave

dangerous - May 16th, 2006 at 07:55 PM

Yes that's right ! Four SU carbs!
What the reversed Wade cam means I don't know, but it sounds interesting!
That was 1600cc remember...with 14.5 comp!

dangerous - May 16th, 2006 at 07:58 PM

1965...probably single port too!
It did say "not Okrasa or Porsche"

squizy - May 16th, 2006 at 09:41 PM

When you consider that the Falcon GTHO's were doing 14-15 sec 1/4's around the similar era puts this in perspective. Crazy.

humpty - May 20th, 2006 at 01:54 AM

Thats some crazy shit..... Gotta love the modded wheel base.... Looked way odd!... Not sure how that would have made it a better wheelstander.... I wonder where that car is now?

Doug Sweetman - May 20th, 2006 at 10:19 AM

Wow, 14.5 : 1 on a single port with 4 SU's....... thats just crazy. Wonder how much of a 'grenade' that motor was ?

Hi

Did anyone see TVS Channel 31 tonight? There is a really cool 4WD program followed by Rodder Life. They featured the Pirotto family, I used to drool over thier cars in old hot rod magazines in 1970s. They showed some old home movies and the Midvale bug was in one racing at Riverside in Victoria, they didint mention the Midvale bug but he did comment about being beaten by Peter Keegan at the Nationals.

With the times the Midvale bug was running along with all the other VW racers in those days, little wonder they dont like VWs.

You talking about Ron Messina?
Go down to Harris Engines and get some spy shots!
Is that car for sale?

vw54 - May 26th, 2006 at 07:34 AM

Matt Is the pics from a movie ???

1303Steve - May 26th, 2006 at 09:57 AM

Hi

I recorded the rodders life last night on video with the midvale bug running, if anyone can convert it to digital format I will keep the tape for them, if not I will tape over it again. The quality of the reception is not great on Channel 31.

Steve

Yeah... Your correct Dave.... I was refering to Ron's car... he brought it out to one of the my NoH2O days a couple of years back, fired it up and iit sounded great.... But it hasn't done a run in years.... Seems he's only aload to run it at Top Fuel Events on account of the noise it makes.... I sadi to him "why don't you baffle it and run more events?" and he told me that it would kill the power..... I dont get that.... I would want to run it as much as possible.... I think the real reason might be cost and time.... Harris Engines keeps him pretty busy....... I might have to go and pay a visit..... And I'd love to buy that car off him..... might have to inquire as to what he'd take for it....
