hypo-vw - May 16th, 2006 at 12:17 AM

is anyone running at WSID this sunday at the Compac Attak ? Please let us know so that we can support you .

dangerous - May 16th, 2006 at 06:26 AM

Hi Wayne,
there is a post that is incorrectly called "drag Combat" below, that has some discussion on this.
We can continue it here.
So far: Dave Becker, Morgan Smith, Peter Page, Rod Richardson, and Mike Kristen.
Good turn out!
How about you?
DB.

HotRodMatt - May 16th, 2006 at 08:30 AM

My accrediatation came through yesterday so I'll be paying special attention to the five VWs with my camera from the start line.

Hi Dave , no not this time . The oval is undergoing some modifications at present and won't be ready for the weekend . Will run at a couple of street meets in the very near future to test it before heading to Warick for the ALL VW DRAGS on October long weekend .

dangerous - May 19th, 2006 at 06:25 PM

I gather by now that the QLD boys are on their way down there.
Mike from Custom Bugs and Buses has offered them a place to stay
and to store their cars before Sunday.
Anyone who has entered a car that is unregistered, should ask their
local ANDRA guy about the requirement of a log book and tech inspection.
My understanding is that the car only requires a tech if it runs in the 10's,
But Pagey was told to have his 12.0 car teched or he won't race.
My log book and rule book does not say this...Good old ANDRA.
Make sure every one goes to the pits and welcomes these guys
to Sydney, they need your support.

Any spies have anything to report yet?
How's the weather down there?

dangerous - May 21st, 2006 at 04:29 PM

UPDATE!!!!!!!!!
DAVE BECKER HAS RUN SOME 13.0'S WITH HIS SOFT CLUTCH. He is still in and is matched up with Rod Richardson for the second round.
Rod richardson ran a PB of 12.3 in qualifying and beat the points leader(nissan) first round with a .03 light!
Peter Page second qualified with a 12.2 and has won a first round bye in round 1 & has another bye in round 2.
So because all the are volksies on one side of the eliminations ladder, there will be atleast one volksie in the final of All Motor!
The other big news is that mike Kristen has run a PB of 9.43@143, which is by far his best and outstanding for only 2110cc(94x76)
Thanks to Macca Smith for the spy report.
The Smith Bros ran PB with their car in N/A trim of 12.26@107 with weight added !
All these results are verbal and will have to be confirmed.
Best news for me is that despite that Honda running 10.8's he could not repair for first round
(broken axle) and the record for all Motor is still Mine!!(needed to back up the run in eliminations)

dangerous - May 21st, 2006 at 07:54 PM

Both Pagey and Mike K were in their respective finals.
Super effort guys, can't wait to see Matt's photos!!!

Menangler - May 21st, 2006 at 09:57 PM

Its is a shame more people didn't come out to support the VW's, thanks to those who did,
Was a big day, I ran a best time of 12.88 @102mph, my car was a bit fat on the day, it weighed in at 1905lb with the spare tyre and passenger seat still in it, I took them out and saved 40lb's, the clutch was still slipping on take off, saved the gearbox I guess, unlike the Smiths, who broke theirs on the 1st round of eliminations, I had to leave a bit early, how did Pete go in the final?

Menangler - May 21st, 2006 at 09:58 PM

couple more

crewcabconnection - May 21st, 2006 at 10:09 PM

Dave, would love to come and see, kids would love it too...drop me a line next time it's on, love to see it all. Nice photos as usual Matt. Nice work.

pete wood - May 21st, 2006 at 11:14 PM

Went out for a few hours this sarvy. Great to see you guys having a go for dubbers!

The cbb cranky one was awesome. One of the loudest cars there too and that's saying something. My mate, who owns a notch had never seen a serious VW drag car before and was very impressed with the car..and that's coming from a V8 man. :tu:
I have to say, when the cranky one was first wheeled out a few years back I thought it was high on the show factor, 2 blowers and that. All about looks. I'm ready to eat my words now, hats off to you boys. :blush
It's got the numbers to prove it's pedigree. Can't wait to see what you can do next.

Congrats to Pagey and Morgan and yáll. Sadly, they were all patting PAC on the shoulder for driving that mazda into the wall (again ) when the bugs finally came out round 5pm. It took the bonehead commentators 5 minutes to mention just how fast those bugs really are. :td:

anyway, here are some of my pics, not as good as matts but there you go...

Oo,...ohhh,..pass the tissues!

dangerous - May 22nd, 2006 at 05:53 AM

Thanks again to every one who went out to the track to support the Volksies.
That goes for the racers,
the crew,
the spectators for supporting the Volksies,
and the photographers(that means you Matt!)
Good effort Dave Becker..that is close to your best time?
Pete and rod need a gold star for all the time and dollars for getting the cars ready
and travelling all that way.(and trusting all my tranny experimentation)
The Smith boys for doing so many runs all over the country...that tranny was in the
car for a lot of runs, with and without the nitrous...good work Shimmo.
And a super effort by Mike Kristen and his hard working crew, for getting
that Cranky beast through all those rounds to the final.(and all those hours on the tranny Henry!)
I am so looking forward to Warwick in September!

This is the sort of picture we should see at WSID more often.

Dasdubber - May 23rd, 2006 at 09:37 PM

Congratulations guys - well done to all of those who raced/pitted/supported. Especially Pete and Rod for making the big trip down.

I can't wait for the warwick weekender - I'll be there to support everyone and check out the action!

Dak-A-Tak - May 24th, 2006 at 08:50 PM

WELL!!! ,where do i start. Thanks to all ( racers, helpers, supportors ).Great week-end for all the vw's that raced BUT i think my lucky shirt has lost its powers. The red light was close but still feeling myway inside the car and rear suspension set up.The track did have teeth( start line ),sixty foot didn't come good until i started launching at 6000rpm (1.60) ,tyres around 16psi of air.To meet the ALLMOTOR weight (1750pounds) I had to add 70 pounds of weight ( lots of metal plates ).Best pass was first run 12.20/ 109.91mph and final pass after I saw the red light 12.24/108.59mph.The other high light was Rod putting away the pionts leader in first round race. Then after Rod was beaten by fellow vw racer Dave Becker (poor reaction),he ran a 12.20et in a grunge run.(his fastest). All so Mike running fast and making final as well. ( bring on warwick )

splity65 - May 26th, 2006 at 12:20 AM

I was out there on the weekend crewing for the cbb team, it was great to have a field of other vw's to be pitted with. Great to have some interstaters down ten points to Pete and Rod for making the effort to support VW drag racing down here in NSW.
It is great to see all the positive feed back on this post towards the Drag racers and their crew for this I thank the forum members, it is a little bit of a shame however that one of our moderators of this forum, who claims to be so drag orientated had so little to say.
