Finally hit the track....
reub - August 5th, 2006 at 10:35 AM

Well, finally went to the drags with the car. Was great fun...having 3 beetles there was cool, and I think it was the first time any beetles had hit the drag strip here in Darwin in over 15 years....

Thanks to Pete and Jed for showing up in their bugs :thumb

Time, well wasn't too bad considering it was my first time out racing....ever....

I my best run of the night was a 13.09 @ 170.04 km/hr
For those interested it was 23.5deg and 39.8% RH....would differ a little to your conditions down south.

The feel of the car was fantastic. Was only able to run 14lb boost due to a miss that has developed on 18lb over 5000rpm in third gear. It's also not bad considering the car only really has had a couple of hours street tuning by my mate Ian in Cairns on the night before he left. Hot fuel I think is also an issue as I haven't shrouded the radiator yet and the fuel tank sits just behind, copping the hot air from the thermo.

Certainly bitten by the 'bug' so to speak, so I'll certainly be headin back to the track for hopefully some eventual low 12 second passes....

Good Effort Reub!
What is that speed in MPH?

HotRodMatt - August 5th, 2006 at 01:19 PM

105.7mph

Good work Rueb. Should see some good numbers when you get the car sorted.

VWFREAK - August 5th, 2006 at 04:41 PM

Yeah well done Reub, you might even keep up with me next time.lol

My old girl (65 beetle) with her 1641cc and Kads ran a 19.01 @106.9 km.

Yeah I know, it sounds fast, but it aint. lol

Well done!
Do you think you will ever take this car down south?

Thanks.
Who knows dude....
To be honest I'd rather spend the money on my oval than bringing the car down south to 'show it off' so to speak. Certainly wouldn't drive it down, and I don't exactly own a towing car.

good stuff!

13.09 is a very fast street car, don't be disappointed.
It is not as easy as people think to go fast, it's only when you try it yourself that you appreciate how fast is fast.
and remember it's all fun so enjoy.

good work!

Good effort.
What did you find in the clutch area when you had that prob with the fork?

reub - August 7th, 2006 at 05:28 PM

Clutch problem at the end was 3 holes missing in the ring gear that are required to let the pressures plate disengage....all a learning experience i guess....
