Photo taken just before putting the car into storage for a couple of months. I'll then work on narrowing the front beam, improving the mounts on the gearbox, and a coat of clear primer to slow the surface rust.

The double cab easily towed the car around Brisbane, but the shocking state of Qld roads actually shook the car loose from it's tie-down chains. Wayne Penrose experienced the same problem heading back to Sydney.

Looking very professional or Matchbox; I can't decide.

I think I can see the bite marks left by the drag racing bug.

Did the "trailer queen" comments that were supposedly mine make it into the Warwick Newspaper?

I haven't seen my copies of the local papers yet, but I'm sure the trailer queen statement will get a mention. Mine looks more like a trailer tramp!

My trailer doesn't look that tired. I only bought it a few weeks before Warwick from a friend who wasn't using it any more. Just a lick of paint?

Thanks Rueben - not as sweet as yours though. I'll be getting around to arranging that photo shoot. I have it penciled in for issue #13 for the start of the new year.

Hi Craig , your not wrong mate !! these were the worst roads that I have ever towed on ( New England Highway ).
The government should be embarassed to call this one of our main roads , it is a goat track .
'Mango' did move around in the enclosed trailer , so much that the chains became loose enough that it rocked back and forward till the rear wheel chain mounts both broke off and 'Mango' moved to the side of the trailer where the left front guard was rubbed to bare metal in one area . The damage was about 3" long and I wasn't impressed .
Getting repaired tomorrow so that Dean and I can drive it to Canberra on saturday for the German Automobile Festival .

Hey Craig,
I have been reading the posts by everyone, sounds like Warwick was a winner, glad to hear everyone had a good time. What do you think you will add for next year to make it bigger and better? Mike

VWMA Editor - October 10th, 2006 at 08:06 AM

Hi Mike,

Yep, everyone had a heap of fun. That was the main aim of the weekend. Seasoned racers claim this to have been the best weekend in many years of competiting. The DVD's you sent over were also a big hit. Thanks

The challenge for me next year is to keep the fun and casual atmosphere for this weekend. The general talk around the weekend is that entries will almost double, and although this will mean a great spectacle for VW enthusiasts, I want to avoid the event falling into the trap of another Jamboree or major drag meet where competitors are only guaranteed a minimum of 4 runs and everything becomes too serious and crowded.

The unofficial record for Warwick was 23 runs by Michelle Cosgrove. This is now the bench mark for me to maintain. I'm also investigating the possibility of a Khanacross or Motorkhana.

BiX - October 10th, 2006 at 09:28 AM

Khanacross!! :D , have to have a pit team for tire changes between drags and khanacross.....

Maybe is there a way to say cap entries for the drag meet? eg have 50 entries max, with 10 reserved for "top 10" eg the wally's, penroses and dave's of this world?

dragvw2180 - October 10th, 2006 at 10:09 AM

Yep,I know what you mean, some times I have only gotten 2 time trials before having to dial in my car,and if any drama has occured it kinda takes the fun out. One of the things I have been trying to get at one of our events is time trials and qualifying on SAT,race on Sunday. Gives everyone lots of socializin time Sat night, which to me is alot of fun. I have made alot of track friends by helping someone out on test and tune sessions, race days are sooo busy and intense, kinda takes the fun out of it.I was glad to help with the DVD's ,at our first race in GEORGIA in the spring I will be wearing my Tee shirt thanks to my friend Dave.
