Why do you love to race VWs?
Dasdubber - January 15th, 2007 at 11:08 AM

Drawing inspiration from a thread on cal-look right now, I thought it would be interesting to see what got you guys into racing VWs....and/or what keeps you racing them?

Although my experience on the strip has been negligible, in the last year I have been itching to pilot a fast/quick VW down the quarter. I guess I've been around VWs for many years and have always owned one since my first car....like many of the guys on cal-look, I think having a car that is classed as the underdog attracts me a lot.

How about you? Wayne, Dave, Nick, Pete and co?

I think it is because most people don't think VW's are fast, it's a great feeling blowing the doors of some cocky bastard in a V8 Torana who thinks he has the fastest car in the world!!

I don't know yet....but I hope to be able to tell you in the next couple of months.

I agree though....you always seem to be defending yourself when it comes to volksy's. Example, I have a volkswagen racing shirt which I where to work some Fridays...people are always telling me it's a contradiction. Thats when they get told to #%ck off...:D

I've had a couple of smart arse comments from a few Suby boys..One made the comment that I had a funny lookin tow bar(Stinger) and all his mates laughed..

This was prior to my 1st test run of the day in which I reeled off a good 12 sec pass! Funny thing was I didn't see them all day!

If there is a car in the world that was never meant to be fast it's the Bug! 25 BHP, little solex carb, little G/ box aerodynamically challenged...Underdogs just gotta love em though!

People telling me the beach is in the other direction and laughing then coming back after beating their mates skylines etc only to hear silence from th same people during all other runs:P

I love the sound of a little flat 4 screaming it's head off.

Turbo or aspirated it still has a sound that is quite unique.

I am a fan of a small cc flat 4 engine making over ten times what it was engineered to do.

expensive and harder than just putting an import motor in but an achievement I think.

I love the look on the face of some one you've just raced and beat in your clapped out ratted old bettle.... only to pull up level at the next set of lights.......necks stretched at full extension......man that thing was fast lets not race him again...Don't forget the smile on kids faces when they see a Herbie and their dad thinks to himself COOl CAR.

ive just been out mowing the lawn ( off topic i know lol ) but while doin so i admired the bug there and also thought they have to be the best looking coolest car around

its the underdog that we all love i think, i raced for years in the uk and it all started when i went to a saturday night cruz in Brighton uk, where they have a place on the sea front that the cops used to leave u be(as long as u wasnt being daft), on the way in there is always a huge crowd and they cheer and try to get u to burn out etc. as i drove through sone smart prick shouted " hey i'll give you 50 pounds if you can light up the tyres" pretty much everyone laughed and carried on so a plan was hatched. A few weeks later and one lovely 1776 with twin 44's i rolled up to the cruz, same smart mouth prick same challage only this time i lit them up and the look on his face was worth a million, thew whole crowd turned on him laughing and such. since i have had a number of different sized engines all in street legal cars and the looks when u whip some ricer off the lights makes all the hard work worth while...

the beetle is screaming out for a tough donk it suits the looks. oh and it has to be a l cal look if u ask me, something about it being dumped in the weeds at the front and sitting up on the arse

steff.....................

'Cos in Hillclimbs, they're quicker to the first split than most Subaru WRX/STIs despite only driving through two wheels :thumb

coz they have bags of understeer and body roll...

but seriously, they weight stuff all and on the edge they are way too much fun.
