Is anyone using the GT40T transformer type coil? If so are they worth the extra $.
Cheers

This type Andrew?
Mine has served me very well over the years,
but I heard a standard OIL FILLED coil is a better deal.
Thats the one. They say they have many advantages over the oil filled one. stronger spark better heat dissipation etc. and the're more compact.
One of the locals here has used them on beetles, but I have always used the oil filled coils...
I don't think there are any real advantages..
the red GT40 coils also put out a higher voltage spark...

Andrew.... the "T" coil has good spark but are known for overheating and shorting out. Long trips and engine heat will shorten the life. I have
fitted these to all sorts of cars over time and most have failed because of the lack of heat dispersion.
If your looking for more spark look at maybe msd or accel.
The MSD has heatsink built-in and works great at dispersing the heat fast.
The compact design is great for fitting into limited space
Accel is still oil filled but is still one of the best Hi-Po coils around..
But.. is Huge and you might not have the room.

thanks all...oil filled GT40 it is then.
What about GT40R
The only difference between the 40 and 40R is the the 40R uses a resister.
The 40R is great for use in 6v motor's as it doesn't need the high voltage and the standard 40.
