davidoconnor - February 19th, 2007 at 10:18 PM

Great to see an Aussie back in the top 20; well done Rod
with a time of 12.021 @111.91 MPH (normally aspirated)!!

I just got my newsletter from the Cal-Look.com guys only to find Rod's top class Cal Beetle up in postition 6 with the likes of Chuck Frier and Patrick Friel. These guys are front running DRKC cars setting the bench mark in cal cool!! Fast and Slick to boot.

Maybe next year we'll get a few more Aussie cars included. Lets swamp the list with the likes of Adam DeBiasi, Morgan Smith, Dave Becker just to name a few. 2007 is THE YEAR to show these guys what we can do!!

Don't forget the Turbo/Nitrous top 10 either; Nick and Wayne!!

See you guys in Warwick.

RAZ34 - February 21st, 2007 at 08:01 AM

Thanks for the post Dave. Many thanks to Peter Page (Dak-a-Tak Racing ) for getting my car in top 20. It is a fool proof car ( needs to be with me driving) Hopefully an 11 this year. I took it for a spin on Sunday afternoon after Dubs by the Pub. It doesnt feel that fast on the track but on the street it is crazy.

Well done Rod - as mentioned above, lets hope there will be a few more aussie bugs in there next year!

Rod's car is an original '61 Aussie bug with very low milage.

It weighs just over 800kgs with the driver on race day and is USED regularly on the roads.
Yes he does drive it on the freeway sometimes too but not often (last time was the Gold Coast VW show last year)
Tranny has a 1.12 fourth gear and with 205-70 tyres the RPM is not too bad.
It has a basic 2275cc engine with a welded VW stroker 82mm crank,
and welded 043 VW heads with 44.0 and 37.0 valves with 1.4 rockers and FK87.
Compression ratio is around 10:1 (no valve notches).

Rod, is there any chance of some detailed photos of what you have done, as I am sure we can all learn something or give us a guide of how to do "things" to our own cars. Photos under the car, detail photos of tricks etc.

One site I found with some good photos is http://www.oldbug.com/gates.htm.  Just a thought.

Congratulations on your success.

Talk soon. Alan

Alan,
do a search in this drag racing section.
When Peter Page ran an 11.96 in this car a couple of years ago(YES! thats right kiddies!),
he posted some info on the tricks underneath.

OH! it was an 11.92 that Pete ran, but the car was a little bit lighter than the present.

RAZ34 - February 22nd, 2007 at 05:08 PM

Alan,
There are a couple of mods under the car. Probably the best thing to do would be to come around and have a close look . Most people only see the motor at shows but it is pretty underneath as well. Pete will be able to give you the whys and wherefors. A big improvement was the Kafer Cup style bar he made, took away the shake on launch. By the way we have a set of slicks and frontrunners that will fit your car. Keen to see that beautiful white car of yours on the track.
Rod.

Well Done! Impressive time and mph.

Stanley - May 12th, 2007 at 12:00 PM

Just noticed only 2 of the top 10 NA cars are from the states. Those europeans seem to be kicking some butt. And not to forget the lone Aussie...:tu:

Good to see the turbo cars as well.
