Autocraft oil pumps?
2443TT - March 1st, 2007 at 09:08 PM

What is a blind front plate?

I can't find any info on this pump and want to know if it actually draws oil from the conventional VW sump pickup, or whether its is intended for use with sumps that use external oil pickups?

Do they pump from one side of the pump to the other, or does the stage closest to the engine do the oil return to the block like the CB dry sump pumps?

I am considering low mounting my new twin turbo setup and using a dry sump stage to scavenge from each turbo.

Then use the pressure stage to pull oil from the sump, pump via a filter and cooler and then return to the block via a pressure regulator as per a normal race style full flow system.

Any suggestions?

Cheers,

blind front plate.it means no oil hole for were the standard system would usually pick up oil from.
to pick up oil from the sump you would usually just t piece one or both of your turbo lines.but placement of your scavange lines in your sump are very important.two of the stages on the pump will be for scavange one for pressure.
i hope i have explained it well enough for you.
if you have any more questions about it, you know were to find me.

Thanks for the info. I'm wanting to use the pump as a wet sump though, and just use the scavenge stages to pump from the low mount turbo's to return to the sump, via an air seperator thats mounted up high somewhere.

Any idea where i'd get an idea of what size gearing is in each stage, and which of the 3 stages in the pump is normally the pressure stage?

I think the blind "front" plate is actually the rear plate.

These also come with a fuel pump drive on them,
so hence the term "blind" for the ones without the pump drive.

There is a 1 1/2 stage pump that may suit your needs better,
with an extra set of small gears that can be used to scavenge a turbo, or a rocker cover.

I think they will require an external pick up, which this guy also sells.

The dry sump pump that I have in my cupboard,
(autocraft but an older one that is not blind..it has a fuel pump drive),
Has 31.76mm(1.25") pressure gears,
and two stages of 25.4mm(1") suction gears.

The pressure gears are the set furtherest from the cam(you may need an external relief valve).

These are a top quality item.

Hope this helps
