Exhaust Size ?
noslug - April 2nd, 2007 at 12:16 PM

I am in the throes of getting a 1 3/4" exhaust for my Engine.

It will be a 2332, FK87, IDA, wedgeport 46 x 38, and a 50 shot of N2O. Does 1 3/4" sound about right ? or would I get away with a 1 5/8". The plan is a 7500 - 8k redline with this combo.

I would go for the 1 3/4" but only because you are using a 50 shot.
Otherwise an 1 5/8" would be sweet.
If you already have an 1 5/8" then try it.
It will be nicer when off the N20.

That is my thoughts.

Agree with you there Dangerous. Because of you using the 50 shot I'd run the larger diameter pipe plus with the capacity and rpm you want to run it should be what the engine needs size wise not to restrict it.

Sounds pretty serious there!! Want to give us some more specs on the engine/ car it's going in???

Thanks guys, Ill run with the 1 3/4" exhaust.

The car is a 55 beetle on a 77 pan, built in Aus, shipped to Christchurch in the early 90's. So its an oval on a 4 stud IRS pan.

Currently it has a 2276, K8, mildish 044s, IDAs in it. Car has run a best of 13.9 @ 95mph. Im sure there is a bit more in it, but havent had the time to get back to the strip to find it. On radials with the belt and muffler. Very streetable engine, Ive been driving it to work for the last couple of weeks.

This winter I will be building a 2332, K87, wedgeports - reworked chambers/ports with LS1 springs and valves (allows about .600" lifts), Scat pro comp wedgemated crank/flywheel, AA forged pistons, CB alloy case. Compression will be about 9:1, keeping it lowish due to the nitrous plan. Gearbox is a gusseted berg 5 with a ZF LSD. At the moment it has a 4.37 r and p in it, looking at changing to a 3.88 with existing ratios (3.78,2.35,1.58,1.21,.82). Also going to T2 CVS. Will stick with a 1700lb clutch, daiken disc, and radials, because the box owes me way too much coin.

If anyone was interested in swapping the 5 speed (minus ZF, including 5 speed shifter and mount) for a built 4 speed plus cash PM me.
