We decided to stay in a hotel again becouse I don't own
any camping gear. Well my wife rang 3places before she could get a place to stay . WHAT!!! The Australian formula
Vee championships are on the same week-end (next door complex ) They are booking out whole hotel places ,as one booking, for many racers and crews.
GET IN NOW!!!!
Sounds like there are few new cars geting built and two new cars imported from USA !!!!!!!!
Put your pic's here!!! Bring it on!!!

My Drag Rat will be fitted with a narrowed and adjustable beam from Custom Bugs and Buses. I will also be running methanol, have fitted a removable beaver panel, and all the 'holes' replaced with new metal (the wind rushing through the holes was slowing me down). The car has also been painted in grey primer, as the surface rust was threatening to go through. If time, a line lock will be fitted.

Warwick is a huge motorsport weekend this year, with drags and Vees side by side. As Pete said, if you want a motel better ring now, otherwise plenty of room to camp at the track.

I know of five new cars and two imports, as well as a big contingent coming from Victoria.

dangerous - April 5th, 2007 at 07:12 AM

Yes I heard some rumours out there about a new car from the US being imported "turn key".

Please remember if it is quicker than 7.1 on the 1/8 mile that it will need a tech,
you will need a Unlimited Licence,
and convertables must be run with the top UP.

Grab an ANDRA rule book.

I will be on a continued path with my R&D,
and would not miss Warwick for anything...even if I have to sleep on the frosty grass!

How is your progress going Peter?

What about you Beetle Juice? I don't want to hear any excuses this year or camera stories!

Be nice to have an "old timers" reunion with Henry Spicak, Peter Keegan, and perhaps Ross Freestone?

vw54 - April 5th, 2007 at 07:52 AM

You will have to dig deep if yar want Ross to show up

dangerous - April 5th, 2007 at 08:10 AM

No, just have to do it the right way Dave.
Leave it up to me.

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - April 5th, 2007 at 08:12 AM

Wel my brother and I(and my Dad and a few others who will get roped into helping) are trying to have his Type 3 Fastback ready for the weekend. It will be packing a 2332 Type 1 with the only VW parts left being the heads and they have been severly modified!! Add to that Autronic ECU, single throttle body, intercooler, dry sump and garrett T4 with some nice boost and we should be having a bit of fun.

Arrgghh the late nights and long weekends....

VWMA Editor - April 5th, 2007 at 09:06 AM

Even though issue#14 hasn't even gone to print yet, I'm already laying out #15.

For this issue I need a photo and info from all the new cars competing at Warwick this year. These will then be included into the big Warwick spread in #15. If you go back to last years issue with the pre-Warwick coverage (#11), you'll see the sort of info I need. Your photo does not have to be an action shot, and it can even be just a sneak preview like Fabion did last year.

Dasdubber - April 5th, 2007 at 12:54 PM

Well currently my 54 oval has its splitcase tranny still in place along with its whopping 36hp powerplant.

I still have to:
1) decide which ECU I will go with, save money then buy it
2) decide which injectors to use, save money then buy them
3) buy or make the bungs, have them welded into the manifolds
4) make the fuel rails and work out how to hold them and the injectors in place on the manifolds
5) figure out intercooler location (after ripping out the old engine/tranny) and start plumbing up the exhaust (from existing headers to turbo, then from turbo to muffler)...also then work out intake plumbing (turbo to intercooler to throttle body to plenum/s to manifolds)
6) Work out water line routes for both intercooler and turbo (water cooled), buy or have custom made the reservoir for the water...buy the pump and figure out where to install it and wire it up
7) figure out whether to modify my oval tank for 'swirl pot' configuration or have a custom swirl pot made then determine how to route lines (inc return to tank)
8) save money yet again to buy EFI pump, figure out where to mount it then wire and plumb it up
9) finalise what I am going to do with regards to scavenging oil from turbo (either stage and a half autocraft pump which will require a custom crank pulley OR run a scavenge pump then mount it, wire and plumb it)
10) after all of the intake and exhaust is mocked up, pull it all out again and strip down the long block to check bearings, change cam (still to decide on profile), do some head work (nothing major) and reassemble
11) find some more money from somewhere to finish parts collection for gearbox (still to liaise with Dave re. ratios, then have it all assembled)
12) work out which sort of intermediate mount to run and install it plus change front g’box mount to accept later nose cone
13) change spring plates (adjustable) plus new bushes
14) infiltrate the mafia or work out some other way to embezle more money to buy some front discs (eg. VVDS kit) so Qld Transport will register it
15) buy line lock or staging brake and install it (doing decent skids at warwick is my main aim for the weekend) 
16) rewire most of the oval as it is all old and a mish mash of $hit at the moment, along with another 100 or so odd jobs
16) have everything aligned so it actually drives straight
17) hopefully test drive it the night before I load it onto the trailer to head off to warwick (obviously would like a bit more time but judging by the above work I need to do, I could be still finishing the car in the staging lanes!)

Alan
Sorry for the full breakdown – was good for me to think of how much I really need to do! I always seem to work well under pressure (I hope)

Oh ANDRA.....

I was thinking of bringing the Junka up but I have not got it andra teched. Here we run into the ANDRA v's VIC ROADS rules problem. I want to keep it street.

At the risk of side-tracking this thread....Nick, do you think the junka could be vic roads approved and ANDRA approved - or are there aspects of each that are mutually exclusive?

nbturbo - April 5th, 2007 at 01:56 PM

Geezus Das you had better give up sleep for a couple of months.I got my discs from near you there somewhere-Sherman.I think he's near the Gold Coast.I am starting to fit the injection on my Type4 next week. Will keep you posted how it goes.

Dasdubber - April 5th, 2007 at 02:09 PM

Make sure you put up some pics Gary - I'd be keen to see how you progress with the type IV injection (so as to avoid hijacking this thread, feel free to post any details in the EFI ECU thread in this drag section).

Cheers
Alan

PS Yep, no rest for the wicked - I am committed to having it done....the main thing that is holding me back is money though, so hopefully as my business picks up, the progress will speed up proportionally. ;)

Stanley - April 5th, 2007 at 08:02 PM

Well the TAT turbo will be there this year. Can I just say it will be, and has been quite a discussion point.
You see Warwick weekend is my wedding anniversary. It's also school holidays and this year I'm postponing a romantic trip to NZ to go.

Luckily my wife understands my efforts to hang on to my youth. The other thing is I will need to hire a trailer and car to get up there. So I'm making some sacrifices to get there.

This is as long as it's still in one piece following another T&T in the 21st April and at least one dyno session.

Sick68VW - April 6th, 2007 at 08:49 AM

well after two years of not racing and still having all the good stuff tucked away its time to put it all back into a car so i will be running my old combo now with a lsd and some other goodies.I used to own the red 68 with fushs if any one remembers it. But thinking of a 74 super because there are no 76 beetles left well anything good you guy's think it would make my times slower because the 68 was lighter. But i will be running higher comp, slicks, better muffler, and a dyno which i never had after i bulit the motor the very last time out was a 13.5 in full street trim drive there and drive home. any thorts:beer

dangerous - April 6th, 2007 at 12:59 PM

Good to see you back into it again sick68(sorry can't remember your first name!?)
Has it been two years? Time flies!

Were you going swingaxle?

If you find and early car it will be way lighter!

Either way,
as long as you are there you will have a heap of fun!

Dak-A-Tak - April 7th, 2007 at 08:24 PM

You can keep an eye on my ride in member rides section
in this web site.
Steering, chassis tin,paint,wire-ing,rear wheels, check motor, wheelie bars ,windows, wing to make, and more.
What am I doing here.:P That is one car out of three!

BiX - April 8th, 2007 at 12:31 PM

I should be there for my first time down the strip in a car. With the 2L and might try and strip the super even more before. Should have the mallory fitted and engine well sorted.

Might have to go a T&T ebfore hand to see how to launch the beetle on the drag stip rather than hillcimb or autocross trackl (its so much easier when they say "in your own time"!!

fullnoise - April 12th, 2007 at 10:36 AM

Lots of things to do before Warwick. Hopefully not many of them involve grease or oil.

I might give my oval a cal-look noes-down stance and a staggered tyre size.

I might fit up the IDAs just for the hell of it and to support Caltex petrol stations.

Then I'll see how many cars we can get to cruise up from Sydney and then from Tamworth.

Like Dave I'll also have to try and remember Sick68's real name. I only know him as Valentino.

Then there's following Dasdubbers progress; I'll get tired just thinking about his work load.

After speaking to loads of people at the VW Nationals everyone is really excited about Warwick 07. It was a blast last year I can't imagine how awesome it will be this year.

Love your work Craig.

I think there is a few guys keen on a T&T. We should work on a date for the future to hone our skills (or to get some in my case). What do others think?

dangerous - April 12th, 2007 at 06:33 PM

Can't beat practice Andrew.
Col said he was keen for a T&T soon also.
Let me know if you guys are running, I'll come up.

reub - April 12th, 2007 at 09:48 PM

I'm heading down with my 9 year old son....no car though :(

Flying to Brissie to catch up with family then will be looking for a ride down to Warrick then down to Sydney.....happy to pay our way....

Dasdubber - April 12th, 2007 at 09:55 PM

Hey reub, I'm sure you won't have any trouble catching a ride....I'd be happy to help out (Although going from the gold coast). I'm sure we could work something out!

No offence taken if you sort something else out first though :)

Well add to that a set of carillo rods and new chrome moly push rods, pushrod tubes and new barrells for new pistons.

Will be having a nice big sale soon of all old stuff to try and recoup some cash to finish this thing off for Warwick.

The list just keeps getting bigger and the time is just getting shorter.......

rose - April 14th, 2007 at 04:14 PM

Better book motel accommodation soon as not much left I did mine yesterday. I'm spoilt I need a comfy bed & a hot shower. If you don't want to camp out you better book something soon .:thumb

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - April 14th, 2007 at 08:19 PM
