What do you think of these ??
noslug - May 29th, 2007 at 02:10 PM

46 x 37 modified wedgeports. These were done by Darren Krewenchuk up in Canada, flowed through the manifolds at 28". LS1 springs and valves.

12s on radials ?

there big capacity combustion chambers if your running stock deck height 64cc ???

Are they set up for a turbo system it would be a low compression ratio

Whats the casting of the origional head 041 044 ???

55slug - May 29th, 2007 at 06:06 PM

They have been cut down to 60cc. 044 head. Compression will be 9.5:1 with a .050" deck height (2332). Engine will be running nitrous oxide which is why the compression is there (FK87 cam).

I dont know if you can see the flow figures, but they flowed 200 cfm at .450" and 227 cfm at .600"

give us look at your ports

Darren is a gun, I think you will be very happy.
Were were the flow sheets?
Those numbers are excellent, and knowing Darren,
he is a "high velocity" dude so you can expect the best performance per CFM.

Yeah, Im using berg 1.4's as well, from what Ive heard they are notorious for lifting more than the advertised. Not sure wether I will have piston/valve clearance issues with this, guess ill be finding out soon !

what size nos shot are you planing on,big i hope

With the port cross section and that cam it will come on way late without gas.
especially with the Berg rocker ratio.
You may like to consider a bit less duration on the intake(DON"T suggest K8!, I am thinking much smaller) and a slightly wider lobe centre.
Even with that big cam it will get in the 12's easy(unless your car weighs a TON).
As long as you can keep it in the power.

Little shot to start with 60 Hp, over time stepping up to 100Hp if I can get it to the ground, looking at controllers to help here.

Dave, I am concerned about bolting this to the box I am running. Berg 5 with a 4.37 r and p. Gears are short 3.xx 2.35, 1.58, 1.21, .82. Im running close to 7k at 100 mph in 4th through the traps now, which is why I wanted to build something that would spin to 8k. But - I dont need those revs in a nitrous application. I guess I have to sacrifice one or the other eh ??

K8 ?? :) I love the cam I have - the K87 is a billet berg number. I am open to suggestions - 112 LC ? W120 on intake K10 on the exhaust ?? Any suggestions wecome.

The FK87 is an excellent cam and with the added port area and rocker ratio that you have,
it is as big as you will ever want for a normally aspirated street/race combo.

You have to ask your self if you want a good N/A cam and compimised N20 performance,
or acceptable(but not optimum) N/A combo and ideal N2O deal.

I am thinking of a lobe with mid 250s @.050 on the inlet and mid 260's for the exhaust on 112 lobe centres.

I know that the V26 Engle profile is smooth and sweet(254@.050"),
but I'm not sure of a lobe that will be happy for the exhaust with larger than 1.4 rocker
ratios,
like Berg 1.4s.(some K8s I have seen to be quite harsh on larger than actual 1.4 ratios).

The V26 (NOT VZ25!!) is available through Bergs, but is not listed in Engle's catalogue.

Perhaps a V26 on 112 lobe centres and a 1.45 exhaust rocker?
This can be swapped around to the inlet for better N/A performance.

Surely there are some cam grinders in NZ that can help,
if not try Sure-Cam in Sydney(an ex-kiwi, and gun cam dude..but not cheap)

If it were me(and it is not) I would use V26 as it comes with 108 LC and 1.4 inlet rocker and 1.45 exhaust.
I would swap them around for street(n/a) use.
If you want a bit more HP then 1.45 and 1.54.

With your heads this will not behave like a 'small' cam.
The large port and area of the lift curve(at the valve) will extend the rev range
from what you have now n/a.

This is all my opinion, but should give some interest to get your train of though flowing.

Thanks Dave, Ill do some more thinking about the cam side of things. There are a couple of cam grinders here that maybe able to help out, Ill contact them and see what they come up with.
