VW Warwick 2007
VWMA Editor - June 18th, 2007 at 08:31 PM

Hi Everyone,

With less than four months to go, the weekend is shaping up big time. Combined with the national Formula Vee championship next door at Morgan Park on the same weekend, Warwick will be humming to the beat of Volkswagen power.

This year Volkswagen Group Australia is proudly supporting VW Warwick. I am very grateful for the support offered from VGA, and it will go a long way to offsetting the costs incurred with organising such a big weekend. This year the corporate marquee has been extended to cater for 200 drivers, crew and supporters, and a larger Video screen and sound system has been hired to provide added entertainment throughout the weekend.

Wayne Penrose Volkswagen, The Grange Estate, Penrose Motors, Rod Penrose Performance & Trimming and Custom Offroad have given already given their sponsor support for 2007, and for this I am also extremely appreciative. Thanks guys.

Although VW Warwick is all about the racing, creature comforts will be improved this year. Warwick Dragway is one of only a few drag tracks to offer onsite hot showers, and for 2007 VWMA and the Warwick Drag club are working together to provide at least another two permanent showers and toilets per block, possibly with a block to be located near the camping area. This will help to make the event a little more enjoyable for racers and campers alike.

Entry forms are again available at http://www.vwma.net.au  (click on the VW Warwick Banner on the home page). Entries have begun arriving, and so far six new cars not seen last year have staged their intentions. If you raced last year, but are campaigning a new car or changed specs to last years car, I will need photos and information emailed to me by June 30th for the preview issue of VW Magazine Australia #15.

From all accounts, the number of entries is set to double from last year. The good news is that it will not change the format of the event, but rather keep things really pumping over the two days. The Sunday practice may be replaced with an extended round robin competition, but this will not reduce track time.

Cheers
Craig

I'm trying to inspire convy from Sydney and Tamworth that includes:

My 1915cc Oval
Keith's '69 bug with monstor nitrous motor
Jak's WRX powered Superbug
Paul's WRX powered L bug
Col's freshly built hillclimb Superbug
Type 3 wagon turbo

My car should be the slowest doing around 9.5s!

The only prep I'm doing to my car is adding some big rear tyres for the trip to keep the revs down so the engine noise reduces to a loud roar.

Excellent Nick - will be nice to meet you - whatever you end up driving!

CT - convoy sounds like some hot little cars there. Big thanks to Col (from tamworth) for sorting out a g'box r&p issue for me in recent months (and thanks to Rudi Frank for supplying the correct 3.88). Good guys all round!
