Anyone using a 091 in there car. Where is the gearbox code located, can you show me a picture of it.
I use a 091 case in my tranny
and the code is on the lower LHS close to the intermediate housing.

I have an 091 and my plans to date are
Alvin's main shaft (1st & 2nd) and custom third and fourth
Bug type one nose cone with CNC intermediate housing
zf if funds permit or a late bus 4 spider gear rp
custom bell hosing to mate up to my Subaru (in development)
ratios are an unknown at this stage I have 17's with 45 series rubber and I want to gear fourth to around 260kpm in the hope of cruising at around
2900 at 100kpm.
any thoughts on what I'm talking about greatly appreciated. (sorry for the topic hijack)

I see where you are the national record holder did you use this same gearbox in both configurations to attain those times and did you use improved gears in your gearbox.
Yes the Intermediate housing is a Gene Berg item
and does not suit 091 gears unless a spacer and different shift rods are used.
It does use a type one nose cone.
I have used solid mountings under the bell housing and intemediate housing.

I believe the billet ones I have seen on The Samba are available for 091 gears.
This same basic trans was used for both combinations with just a diff ratio change,
4th gear(late 1600 bus 0.82), and tyre diameters at different stages of performance.
It used aftermarket 1st and 2nd ratios, but stock 1800 bus 3rd and 4th.
It currently has Weddle/Erco gears for Warwick 1/8 mile.
It has a steel billet superdiff, and if you choose to use the factory iron 4 spider diff,
a huge strength increase can be had using a steel hemisphere cover rather than the stock cast one.
Weddle sell these.
RPM at 100km/h is a little difficult without acurate tyre height,
but assuming 635mm(25") 2900 rpm will require an overal ratio of 3.48.
This would suit a 0.76 4th gear and I think Weddle has a .696 or .77 one available.
Without getting to much into the actual ratios you might like to perhaps try stock first to make comparisons,
and depending on actual tyre height...
3.11, 1.86, 1.19, 0.77....?
Do they sell 4.0 ring and pinions for this box.
Not that I know of.
Only 4.57 and 5.86 in 091 style.
5.375, 5.4286, 4.857 in 002 style(1600 and 1800)

Looked at the box again finally found the code it's dk 19 032. Cwsan you tell me what year box is this and which vanagon it came out of.

555bug, there's a mob in the UK that make the subaru/VW belhousing. Ultra VW had a feature on them.
I have an 002 box also. I would like to know if the nose cone and intermediate housing of the 002 can be used on my 091 without me buying an expensive berg intrmediate housing.
i am aware but I am working with an Australia mob to see if we can't get them made here
