Took the 58 out drag racing...
reub - October 27th, 2007 at 12:51 AM

Thought I'd better get the humble 58 down to the last street meet for the year here in Darwin.

I managed a 15.20@140.93k (88.1 mph?). Kept with the 300kw HSV down the strip to be beaten by a 14.733.
I'll have to post my timeslip over in the aussieveedubbers top aircooled drag times - puts me at number 26

For an idea of temp up here tonight it was 31deg 1013hPa and 79.8% humidity....

Was cool to take the old girl racing. Can see why you dudes are so addicted to the old aircooled.

I'll post some videos over the weekend.

good stuff

what are the details of the motor??
1916 with webers???

Cool!
That is pretty good considering the weather conditions.
Judging from the MPH and weather it will be in the 14's with more practice.

Did you shift to 4th gear?

reub - October 27th, 2007 at 11:04 AM

Yeah, it's a 1916 with twin 44IDFs. I've posted full specs in a previous post.
Suffered a little axle tramp so couldn't do high rev launches.

I did a couple of runs just using third and the rest shifting into 4th. Revs drop right off though - close ratio third to a stock 4th and running a 3.88:1.

Was heaps of fun, and the video is great too.

Great to see your still slow off the line Reub. lol, looks like your still flying the VW Drag Racing flag by yourself since I left.

Can't wait to get back up north.

Great vids.

You'll keep Pete......you'll keep......

By the time you're back I'd guess Andrew will be down with his weapon, Trev will has his nos fed type 4 down there and VWRX should be in full song. Jed may even be down there. Should be cool. :D
