Made a New Years resolution that if I could get my car running quick enough to join the middle bracket (Hot Street 13.50 – 15.49) I would fly the
volksy flag in the Willowbank Street Series.
After my 15.39 run prior to Christmas i've made good and joined up and received my race number. Will be starting at round 4 on Saturday the 26th
Jan.
Ideally I'd like to see a few more volksy guys come and have some fun. Lets just say that at the test and tunes it gets lonely by yourself with
everyone laughing.....
But I usually end up with a few guys who are a bit surprised by the small block beetle.
Stay tuned and i'll let you know how I go.
Good to see Stanley.....have fun and post lots of pics.....
Hmm.... need anymore for the pitcrew?
Tazz
sounds like fun, alittle to far for me to travell.
can't wait to see some pic's or footage.
give them hell stanley.
Mate hope you have a ball.
Never been to willowbank. Maybe have to have a trip out sometime and watch the racing !
Go Stanley!
The Volksy drag racing has been quiet lately,
so it will be good to see a Volksy racing there again.
HOT OFF THE PHONES!!
Stanley runs 14.652@90.95mph!!
This was his first qualifyer...more soon.
For reference,
sixty foot was 2.092 smoking the tyres out of the hole,
and he ran 9.34@73.79 at the 1/8 mike mark.
This is with 10 psi guage pressure in the 1641(?).
COOOOOL!!!
Thanks Dangerous
Lost my first race because I went to fast....even though I backed off...go figure
14.46 @ 84mph
best other run
14.65 @ 92.23mph....more tomorrow.....must sleep now
14s from a 1641! Excellent!
Awesome!
Well done Stanley.
SWEET !!!!!!! Stanley ,sorry that I couldn't be there to help .(working on Rods car )That must felt much faster as drive ? In the end those time are quite consistent mate .Getting close to the 100mph club .
Well done Stanley - can't wait to join you and boost the numbers hopefully later this year when I get my new engine built! Keep up the good work.
Alan
Congrats Stanley, so what has changed since your 15.39 prior to Xmas? Almost a second off that is pretty impressive.
The 15.39 was with a missed shift.
And I think the waste gate flapper was sticking open, so now it has 11 psi guage pressure.
Thanks guys
The new exhaust seems to have had the most impact but at Warwick it seemed to handle pretty poorly even on the 1/8th mile.
When I got back home I decided to do some mods for the 1/4. These include solid front and rear g'box mounts and the addition of a traction bar.
When I pulled the rear mount off noticed that both engine mounts were broken which is probably why added to the handling woes.
I also had a wheel alignment on the rear and was told even with the axles as far forward as they would go in the spring plates I still had 5mm of toe
out either side. I have since elongated the spring plates and moved the axles forward some more.
All of this must have helped as it is very easy to drive at 90mph with no signs of getting loose. The traction bar has also fixed the slight wheel hop
issue as well.
As Dave mentioned I had an issue with the waste gate (I think) being jammed open and lost all boost on my second run at the last T&T. Also took
the opportunity to raise the front back up and fit some softer shocks. This also seems to have helped the launches. I am still getting heaps of wheel
spin but for the moment I’m happy to put up with this rather than breaking shit.
After running the 14.652 @ 90.95mph I was happy enough that I could’ve packed up. The next run was 14.657 @ 92.23mph so ET wise it was consistent.
I dialled in at 14.60 for the racing, but after waiting 2 hours the temp had cooled and I was up against a V8 HQ on slicks. I was well in front all
the way so backed off at the end to save my dial in but still managed a 14.46 @ only 84mph so although I won I lost and my night was over.
Gave it one more run just to see how it would go but babied it a bit and ran a 14.67 @ 90.69. The best thing was I was still able to drive it home but
also gained some respect from some those who like to laugh at volksys.
At the end of the day it's a pretty much standard 1641 with a small turbo but man am I having some fun. Anyone else thinking of giving it a go don't
think about it do it....it's a hoot.
Stay tuned for more.....and on the quiet hopefuly this time next week i'll have a new project to start. Same engine (although stronger and with more
boost) but in a different car. More on that later......:
PS Must thank Dangerous Dave for his invaluable knowledge and to the other volksy racers for their encouragement......
Good job mate.Well done!!

This run was my best mph 92.23 although from the start you wouldn't think it.
Sounds good for such a little 'mouse motor' mate - great stuff!
