and it's a small block to........go the 1600's

dangerous - February 22nd, 2008 at 07:00 PM

One of my spy's down in Adelaide(thanks Dave!) told me about this car many years ago when Lou was still around.
He was a real local legend, and all round good-guy.

Amazing thing about this car is that it sports a split case tranny from a Tempo Matador(1940's FWD mini truck with VW drivetrain) ,
with factory ZF limited slip diff.
Great stuff from the old days, & nice to see it being re-done.

matberry - February 22nd, 2008 at 08:52 PM

That is way cool !
Looks like the Volksies are back good and strong.
Some say they never left !!!

So it is time to build another drag car !!! :tu::tu::tu:

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - February 23rd, 2008 at 03:41 PM

With the increased enthuisasm back in the drag scene it would be good to see some morer cars competiting in the Sport compact series. There is only so much one can stand watching one "furry sik maate" rotary after another go down the strip.....

dragvw2180 - February 24th, 2008 at 11:45 AM

humpty - February 27th, 2008 at 07:28 PM

Hard to compete in anything in SA as we dont even have a strip!
Sad really as we have so many cool and fast cars here and nobody gets to use them apart from events like warwick and portland.

Heath, you had better keep 9th March free and come to the 3rd round of the Tri Series meet here at Whyalla. We have spent big dollars in the last 6 months sprucing the place up with a new staging area and bitumen thru the pits. It's an 1/8th mile track, but plenty of cars doing low 5 second passes and generally get a very good turn out of cars.Sadly yet no VW's,so I am doing my bit to change that.

Turbo54 - February 28th, 2008 at 08:48 AM

Yeah a friend of mine from here in Adelaide (MV Automatics) have a very quck orange blown V8 rodeo ute that goes up there.
Will try to keep that day free.

Just heard from secret agent "B4" in Adelaide,
Mike Adi ran a 7.4@91mph at the Mildura 1/8 mile drags.
Awesome ride for a 1600cc car with such a short wheel base.
Wallaceracing says 11.6 @ around 113 mph for the 1/4!

Coool!

Golde60 - April 1st, 2008 at 12:45 AM

nbturbo - April 2nd, 2008 at 04:19 PM

This car is on display at the Adelaide Motor Show. I saw it last night.
http://www.adelaidemotorshow.com.au  for details and opening times.

nbturbo - May 11th, 2008 at 06:09 PM

He bought it up for a run yesterday.I didn't see it stage for the first run and as he did his burn out,it was hidden behind some tow cars, the noise was awesome-then it appeared and I couldn't believe how loud it was.He was into the high 7's,but was having trouble getting it to hook up just right. They played with pressures and launch RPM.It has no rear suspension,so it's a lot of experimenting, and he also reckons that it's a whole new world for him.I was impressed with his efforts.

video?

Stanley - June 16th, 2009 at 11:36 AM

Any news or pics on this car?

dangerous - June 16th, 2009 at 02:48 PM

Mike recently upgraded the trans with taller ratios and has run a 7.1@ nearly 100mph pass at Mildura.

polak - June 17th, 2009 at 04:09 PM

is that a second gearbox change since he broke the box in portland or was it all changed 1st time round?

dangerous - June 17th, 2009 at 04:34 PM

No, same change
...and it was an axle at Portland,
even though the stock box was a bit worn!

polak - June 17th, 2009 at 05:48 PM

ah my bad, i was helpin out with a few crews after stoker's motor gave up, so all i got was word of mouth, and things seem to mysteriously change along the grape vine
