Stanley's car....1 1/4" Tranny raise 28Jun14
Stanley - May 5th, 2008 at 07:37 PM

Thought this might be better here than in members rides.

Since the decommissioning of my white '70 beetle that I used to drive/race with the turbo, this is what now has all my attention.

Although I’m not going to post it as a build up, it's passed the point of no return so I’ll just post the odd progress pic. It's nothing that hasn't been done before.
It's a '60 Aussie built beetle and plans are to make it for the track only and as such has had all non essential stuff removed including all the window mechanisms and side glass which is now lexan.

It will still be built under the TAT scope but I will spend money where it is needed particularly in making it safe. I have so far replaced the MC all the wheel cylinders, new brake shoes all drums machined amd all new wheel bearings. New g'box is in progress with Dangerous Dave and I will mount the old 100 ci turbo to it.

Colour scheme at this stage will be satin black with silver flashes to match the aluminium panels at this stage.

This what it started as a couple of months ago.

May look familiar to some. I think I may have posted some pics earlier.

Stripped and ready for the games to begin.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/stanley111/1960%20Beetle/MC.jpg
Upgraded to a duel circuit MC. Have run a new line from front to rear.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/stanley111/1960%20Beetle/int_mount.jpg
Front g'box mount was broken so decided after some advice, to fab an intermediate mount. Thanks Dave.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/stanley111/1960%20Beetle/rear3.jpg
Also now has a removeable apron and have done away with the wings between firewall and inner guard.

Couple of pics of the new dash.

http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j37/stanley111/1960%20Beetle/inside1.jpg
Inside is plain and simple in satin black and aluminium rear panels and door cards.

These are the wheels I recently purcahesed. May also look familiar to some.

Any progress shots Stanley?

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - June 28th, 2008 at 07:16 AM

Yeah Stanley I've heard you have been a busy bee lately....

Stanley - June 28th, 2008 at 05:54 PM

Yes I have been busy. As you guys would now you get to a stage where you have to do all the little fiddly jobs so it looks like there is no progress

Thanks to westi and in particular Dangerous Dave I was able to take possession of my super duper gearbox and whack it in. That said I went to get the drums machined and found they would be way oversize after machining so I am just waiting to get some new rear drums.
The first pic shows the gear box in. Sorry but no innovation here except the front mount is gone and I've fabbed a new mid mount.

Pic 2 is the front completely finished bar shocks. So far I have new dual circuit MC and reservoir, all new wheel cylinders, brake pads, bearings, seals and steel lines.
Everything else is from my old white beetle.
Pic 3 is the dash with seat and belts all finished.

Currently I am prepping all the guards, decklid and rear apron for undercoat and fuel tank for paint and I have a week of in a week’s time at which time it will be painted. Then all the Perspex windows and ally door panels can go on.

dangerous - June 28th, 2008 at 06:19 PM

Ah!
Nice work Dude,
great progress!

Dak-A-Tak - June 28th, 2008 at 08:01 PM

Starting to take shape Stanley ,if you didn't get head lights and hand brake stuff ,ect give me a call mate .
Peter P

Stanley - June 29th, 2008 at 05:24 PM

thanks Pete. All I am after is the chrome rings and the ratchet for the handbarke.
I'll give you a call though over the next few days.

90% finished prepping the guards. Already to have the underside painted then i'll bolt them on temporarily for some spot putty and a final light sand before I start on the body.
My back is rooted from being bent over all day filling and sanding. I made the mistake of sticking them in an acid tank which meant that someones previously good work was undone. They looked way better before they were stripped.
I'll have to take out another couple of kgs somewhere to make up for the filler. the body however is in vgc and will require minimal filling but a lot of sanding to get rid of the chalky layers of paint.
Bear in mind this is not a resto just a tidy up.

Cheers

humpty - June 29th, 2008 at 06:47 PM

Looking very nice Andrew....

Dasdubber - June 29th, 2008 at 07:00 PM

Good stuff Andrew - these old things are sometimes like Pandora's box - once you open them up and dig deep inside, a whole host of evils can be uncovered!

Keep it up (and keep the pics coming!).

All it's done all year it seems up here anyway.

I've been painting or fibreglassing......or trying to.

Lucky the odd engine build has come up.

Sorry to here Stanley the dream holiday of painting your car isnt quite gonna happen. You could always send it up here and we could watch the panels rusting together!

Stanley - July 8th, 2008 at 10:49 AM

Thanks for the reminder Dave and sounds like a plan Mat

Is spending time with your daughter on school holidays and making her sand classed as quality time?....

Tazz - July 8th, 2008 at 12:26 PM

Define Quality?

:lol::lol::lol:

Tazz

matberry - July 8th, 2008 at 12:47 PM

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - July 8th, 2008 at 03:25 PM

Bonding time?? Isn't that what moisture does to bare metal panels LOL

Tazz - July 8th, 2008 at 03:53 PM
