any ideas how quick/slow these cars do the 1/4 mile. Thinking about one for hill climbs.
Cheers
16 sec
probably high 16's.
I would say that the current fast cars in Australia would run a sub 16sec quarter mile. I saw Forumla vees run qtr mile about 10 years ago and they did 16.5. That as with a 1200 making about 50hp atw. Nowdays they are running a 1600 and making upwards of about 65hp atw. check out website for more info http://www.fvee.org.au/info.
thanks for the info, is there anything vw you guys don't know? Sounds like a vee with a bit of work, maybe 1800 engine sliped in would make a nice economical hill climb, short circuit car. Thanks again.
My cousin is still toying with the idea of a Vee chassis with his 2465Cc type 4 in the back. Me thinks it should be fairly quick!!

What do they weigh?
Based on 550kg with driver(?) and 65hp atw....
http://www.pontiacpower.org/hpcalculatorquarter.php
14.45@91.5mph
Either they are a whole lot heavier than that,
or someone is dreaming.
That's as fast as the old TAT.
Think the minimum weight is 475 with driver. But most cars are over that minimum weight. either car is heavy or a fat driver lol
I've just purchased a relatively cheap 1600cc spec Fvee.
I compared the cost of building a circuit Beetle from scratch, engine, gearbox, roll cage, etc., or buying a purpose built track car, such as the
Fvee.
The Fvee still came out on top, and they handle and perform much better than a sedan type racer.
My plans are for some Qld Fvee rounds, a hillclimb or two, and any sprints that happen to fall on a free weekend.
Do you get free weekends Craig??
The ones that coincide with a full blue moon...
hahahahahaha. nice one.

there was a 1200cc spec one for sale at oran park on the weekend it was 20k
An older Elfin-copy belonging to Shane Hart, upgraded to 1600cc spec. I collected it today. Nice little unit. Needs paint and a few minor repairs, but basically all ready to race.
Sounds great Craig.
That will be a huge amount of fun.
Yeah, I'm looking forward to it. It will be about two months before I can get on the track what with Warwick and the next issue of the magazine due,
so it will be interesting to see if I have the 'balls' to steer one of these things. I had a blast driving the Vees at the media day (which is where
I got sucked in to the sport and went looking to buy one), so I hope the same applies to actually racing it.
The two months will be a good opportunity for me to run a spanner over everything and at least give me the confidence that nothing will fall off at
crucial moments. I'm already impressed with how compact and clever the Fvee design is, especially the gearbox linkage.
With the gearbox linkage, I hope it has a reverse log out, nothing looks better than going from 1st to Reverse off the line.
