Tony Thornton Crash
matara - July 13th, 2008 at 11:48 AM

My knowledge of drag racing is pretty lacking, but I found this interesting crash video on youtube, of a Tony Thornton having a spectacular crash whilst dragging a beetle.

The accents are Australian and he's racing a Holden, so I presume Tony is an Aussie.

Anyone know if he came out of this crash without a major injury, because it looks pretty bad.

How does a crash like that occur?
Is it when hes jumping on the brakes or somthing?

Tony after a 6 month stay in hospital was OK.

He is know the CEO of Andra (Australia National Drag Racing Association) and still a lover of all vw things especially vw drag cars.

The exact cause of the crash is still not completely know.

What came of this crash however was the instigation of the side walls that extend the entire length of the drag strip as it is thought that the extent of the crash would have been minimised if the walls were in place.

When you push the limits of a car accidents do happen, in this case it was all good as Tony survived and lived to play another day.

Dangerous showed me that vid on his VHS time machine, after that rag tops or convertibles were not allowed to race, i'm sure Dave will correct me if i'm wrong. It is a nasty crash but he survived.
