Hi Everyone,

VW Portland 2009 welcomes Yokohama Tyres Australia on board as a supporting sponsor. CT Hansen from Yokohama will again be racing his immaculate Oval.

This is the last week for driver entries, which close this Friday 13th February. Late entries only by prior arrangement.

Cheers
Craig

Just have a couple of questions is there a weekend pass this year?

and also we will only be there as spectators but would like our 2 daughters to make a tappet cover racer would they still beable to do this or is it only for drivers, crew and campers that are staying at the grounds?

thanks

VWMA Editor - January 5th, 2009 at 09:17 PM

Weekend passes are paid for at the gate upon arrival. $30 per adult, children under 14 free. This includes your camping if you wish to stay overnight.

If you have the weekend pass, you are welcome to stay for the Tappet Cover Races. These should get underway between 8 - 8.30pm once the main meal is finished, so you can come back later if you are staying elsewhere.

Cool, was wondering the same thing.
Better pull the tappet covers off the old 40Hp so the boys can get started and be involved.
Looking forward to the event again, hopefully a few more cars this time. I'm really hoping to have mine there next year, lot of work though.

Is anyone from Sydney (or Brisbane gong through Sydney)heading down to Portland at a leisurely pace?

I'm considering taking a couple of days to do the drive and enjoying the road trip. I've planned a bit of time of in February so there's no real hurry.

Is anyone interested in travelling in convoy?

Regards CT

mactaylor - January 19th, 2009 at 04:48 AM

Thanks Jono,
I have planned t camp, but wondered (at the last minute) what to do if the weather turns.
Thanks for the phone numbers of some options just in case.

byronmcmanus59 - February 10th, 2009 at 05:05 PM

well yeah you'll have to play it by ear.. although its been mid 40's here
for the past week or even month, its cooling down a fair bit,
haven't seen rain for a while though so not sure.

i will say when it gets windy it really get windy, and bloody cold
and the tracks not in the best spot wind wise.

anyway see how you go.

VWMA Editor - February 10th, 2009 at 05:50 PM

Hi Dave,

Your weekend passes include the option to camp at the track, and some of the SA guys have hired large marquees for their vehicles, so there will always be a covered spot to throw a swag. However, it would be very tempting to stay in town, as Portland is a very pretty city with a nice variety of accommodation choices.

See you there.

Cheers
Craig

ps Wind? It can't blow away a real VW enthusiast!

byronmcmanus59 - February 11th, 2009 at 12:08 AM

haha you should try living here.. it can go from heat in the 40's to almost arctic
weather.. all in the same day! its crazy. but judging by the weather we've had lately
compared to last year i think it'll be quite pleasant haha.

I'm just hoping Dave can show up some these V8 boys.. we have a heap in Portland
that think the little daks cant hack it.

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - February 11th, 2009 at 07:51 AM

Muffin man should be able to teach them a lil lesson on consistency with the light as well as running the strip.

Never count your chickens.
We are talking about a man, and a machine.
Neither is perfect, and anything can happen 2100km from home...

Predictions on what happens will be,
what ever happens on the day.

matberry - February 11th, 2009 at 08:58 AM

Dave your such a gentleman racer.

byronmcmanus59 - February 11th, 2009 at 11:38 AM

dangerous - February 16th, 2009 at 08:28 PM

Is there a final Entry list Mr Craig.
It is a long way there.
Who's Idea was this?!

matberry - February 16th, 2009 at 10:02 PM

I agree Dave

After talking to Craig on the weekend, I have decided to go down, not as a passenger with Craig in his comfy T5, but going to tow the bug down for a bit of fun. Approx 4400km round trip from here.....WOW. Cant wait for the road trip to begin, but I am busy servicing race car, trailer and tow car atm.:rolleyes:Will I ever learn....
