anyone in bris remember this one?
vwsteve - January 9th, 2009 at 06:25 AM

i dont know if anyone in brisbane remembers this car or if someone on here owned it but many years ago while i was at the old brisbane airport watching the 4cyl drags there was a really quick beetle which inspired me to try and get a fast vw, from memory it was an early model with a green and silver paintjob, very well done, may have been graphics of some sort, the motor was all chrome, it was a really neat looking car but best of all if was really quick, it axle tramped a lot but went broadside down the track swinging the rear out with every gear change, it blew off quite a few cars that day inc a rotary which had a big head start, it was great to see.I was driving a v8 at the time and met this same bug at the lights once on the southside and before i could get moving to give it a go he was already down the road sideways, i havent seen it since, anyone know what happened to it or have pics of it?It would have been around 15 years ago.

Paul Spineze's bug is the only one I remember fits the bill.
I don't recall him running any airports though.
Pauls car was a '71 or '72 super, 2386cc with IDA's and ran a 12.9@103 with pump fuel and full street trim.
Craig Brown built the engine and I did the IRS tranny with Quaife after th ZF dropped its insides.

Dieter Holzl has the car now, but with big type 4.

Craig took me for a drive in this car. it was QUICK.

Pretty sure it was Ashley Ward that raced his bug at the airport drags.

yes michael, that was the only car I recall racing on an air strip,
but it was never green I dont think.

Ashley had 2332cc with 48IDAs that Craig Brown built for him way back in the early ninetys.

Ash would be the one at airport 4 cyl drags but not sure he ever had a green beetle. This was only on once or twice maybe around 94??
