I found some old photos that i've scanned you guys might be interested in.
up at Willowbank
sigh ... the nostalgia
1995...that is not that long ago is it?
HOW GOODS THAT PINK
PAGEY (BRING BACK THE PINK)
i think from memory that berg car did a 3rd gear wheel stand down the strip
1995 feels like a long time ago to me Dave
Might be the 'old-timers' disease
Nice
Might have to dig up some old pics to add to this collection from early Jambo days....
That was just yesterday wasn't it ???
And yeah, Ive got vid of Gary's car pulling the wheels up in third
and it hasn't been posted up here why Matt ???
Cause these electronical over sensitive adding machine and I dont get on that well. My new laptop is being a total PITA. I cant even post pics atm
without hassle.
I NEED HELP (in more ways than one I know)
I'm hearing you loud and clear......
ive seen some fast vws but that 3rd gear wheel stand berg done sticks in my memory as one of the most impressive!!
Yes bergs car did get a bit of a bounce going in 3rd and 4th gear.
Having shocks with no rebound operation helps
....as does 280hp!
My first run against him was at eastern creek.
As he went through the finish line right next to me,
the front suspension was going through its full travel 9000 in 4th gear...pretty radical set up!
I will try todig upsome pics andpost them here.
Two more:
Great pics Dave!!
Who said '95 wasn't that long ago ... you look 18yo
Who did the Ghia belong to?
THANKS DAVE
THOSE PICS ARE AWESOME
THERE'S SOME YOUNG GUY
IN FRONT OF YOUR CAR,
BUT I DONT KNOW WHO HE IS
Very cool Dave, I have plenty of vid of Gary and you from 95. I even was lucky enough to race Gary in a grudge run when he ran one of his best (Oz vw
record ?) so I have the time slip here. He ran a 10.47 @ 110.19 mph.
And why is that top fuel driver smiling so much....Rachelle Splatt (sp) dont see her anymore...
The ghia is still in hiding, owned by Mark Callas (syd). Very nice, even had fuch's on his tandem axle trailer
I was 26 back then.
Goodness Dave!! You are almost as old as me ... what's your secret??
Seriously though, at what age did you first hit the track in a VW to drag race?
Did you have a car prior to the one in '95?
(P.S. '95 was when I was still in my late twenties [just], fit enough to race A grade cross country MTB and had no children ... that makes it feel
like a long time ago now :-) )
When I bought the car I was 21, and I raced it for the first time on 10th March 1991.
Ran my first 11 , on 12 Oct '91, (I was 22 by then)
My first 10 on 9th Apr '94, (aged 24)
First Nine on 23rd Jan '99 (10 years ago this week!) (aged 29)
That is the same car I am still running. (turn 40 this year....dddoooohhh!!!)
I did build a tube chassis car that I crashed in Nov 2002. (9.94@147)
I did try my 1200 beetle at the drags before any propper drag cars, and it ran a 20.95 pass at 62mph(hooray). (2nd Feb '91)
I was at Indy they year you ran Dangerous. the echo's of a supercharged Volkswagen off the high rise buildings was unbelievable!! i was standing at
about half track(length of the straight) and was surrounded by V8 bogans. when i heard the noise I knew what it was and all the bogans were saying it
was a blown V8.
the look on their faces was priceless as you flew past then backed off with some nice flame action.....
One of my efforts from Jambo about 96/7 from memory. Ran something like 17.7@125km/hr with distributor clamp loose LOL
TDC FTW ....
nice photos dave, whos the chick in the photo mate..i think ive seen her before....
Pete at Willowbank mid to late 90's from memory. Put a pink I mean magenta border on it for the boys from westside....
Dangerous at Indy. My cousin took this pic as I was standing about half track as I had mentioned.
Infamous Wally Penboss at Indy drags in the Type 3 more affectionately known as "WOFTAM"
Aww come on guys, where's the pics of the chop top at indy, '96 I believe, I ran against a v8 torana and he got done, but hell the track is narrow
and who the hell puts bends in a drag strip....turning at 90mph with 12 psi in the rear slicks and an angry v8 beside you is a real memorable
experience.
