Well done Dino, Ryan & CBB!
The infamous Pizza Bug was certainly the talk of the day and has impressed many rodders and muscle car folk yet again.
Not to mention how it showed up many V8s in terms of it's ability to fry the tyres!
Good times, consistency and reliability over many many passes.
Craig Hughes was also invited to participate, but due to axle carnage at Portland missed out this year. There will certainly be no complaints if 2
veedubs are invited next year.
More later and some pics... (I'm stuffed, it's beer o'clock).
Thanks for the update Matt, enjoy the beer and looking forward to some cool pics
The Day Of The Drags is an event for selected hotrods, classics, early muscle cars and HA/GR racecars (aka HAMBsters).
The intention is for a pre-71 cutoff with a preference for pre-49 hotrods and other cars of the early drag racing days in Australia. Early supporters
of the event, whose cars lay outside of these guidelines, are grandfathered into eligibility.
Since it's beginning in 2006 with 40 cars it has grown to feature over 65 cars this year and 15 2nd drivers.
The Day Of The Drags is grass roots do-it-yourself racing. Even spectators are by invitation, although as the event grows in popularity this may be
reviewed. Limiting the number of entrants to ensure virtually unlimited passes will continue.
The format of the day allows for unlimited runs until lunchtime, followed by eliminations with grudge racing between rounds for those eliminated in
racing.
Shannons Insurance provided a $500 policy for the winner of eliminations, runner up got a bucket of gold coins ($2 each collected during the drivers
meeting), the major trophy goes to the best reaction time from the morning session of racing. Other trophies were awarded the fastest female,
starter's choice & Drewfus' choice.
2009 was the 2nd year for Dino's Pizza '57 Beetle.
Ryan Heymans from CBB took the controls for the day and was pretty consistent all day with 13.4 second passes and burnouts that surprised the
crowd.
I'm sure Dino will be posting the timeslip results before too long.
(more pics and info later)
Debbie Rodriquez took the sidevalve 239ci HAMBster "El Diablo" all the way to the finals. Earning runner up position.
Glen Pratt, 1936 Ford Coupe stuffed full of 351 Clevo goodness.
Kevin Bowden uses everything the 302 Windsor has to smoke 'em up in his 1928 Model A roadster pick up. Kevin's wife Pam also did several passes over
the day.
The 1962 Ford of Richard Cartisano is always a start line favourite. Unfortunately his day ended after only a few passes when the tailshaft failed at
the finish line.
Shane Corr launches his 1954 Plymouth Cranbrook gasser. The big cube engine has him frequently burning rubber 'til half track...
Ben Ruytenberg, 1964 XM Falcon.
Coral Dyer's HAMBster pitted in style. Coral pedals a 239ci Ford flathead V8.
Coral's HA/GR and Dino's bug face down. Unfortunately for Coral, it wasn't a case of ladies first.
Fastest girl's trophy.
Best reaction time trophy.
Great photos Matt !!
Well done Dino !
This is a cool pic
Well done Dino

Gday Matt,
Another great "Day of the Drags" organised by yourself and Joseph thanks to both of you..(also love the plug on ozrodders Thats another
Margarita for you ).....
We had a fantastic day with 11 passess and no breakages, even with Ryan dupping the clutch @6000rpm on one of his burnouts"He lost concertration and
his foot slipped of the clutch was his explanation".......
Our best pass was 13.286 @93.91mph R/T.306 60ft 1.725 but unfortunatly this pass eliminated us from the competition with us dialing in a 13.42....
Thanks to Ryan for filling the drivers seat and preping the car for racing and thanks to Mike and CBB for making the Beetle indestructable "eg Ryans
6grand launch ...
We had quite a few Hotrodders comment on the car and were very impressed with how it ran all day with no problems and the times it was running....
There are also a few V8 owners now being ribbed about being smoked by a Beetle:....
cheers Dean
