1 inch raise or not?
Turbo54 - May 2nd, 2009 at 10:35 AM

Hi all,
Just after you opinions, as you know I have got a problem with my cv's rubbing on my frame horns and have posted this in another post and now have just looked at the solid trannie mounts and noticed they come in a 1 inch height. I need to replace the front gearbox mount anyway as the thread and studs that are there (only 1) and started thinking about the pros and cons of both situations. Got to remember this is a street car with occasional drag action if it ever happens here in SA.

Negs
1) I would have to edit my turbo manifold by 1 inch lower to make it fit under the frame horns as it is tucked right up under them.

2) would bring my already turbo, rocker covers, aircleaner box up higher and require me to cut more of the body away and re mount the aircleaner pipe which I just had made.

3) Require my exhaust system to be even shorter than it is (under 2 foot long)

4) Would give me less room for mounting stuff above the gearbox.

I am sure there is more and this is why I am asking

Positives

1) Would clear my cv's on my frame horns and this is a good thing as I have to take it through transport to have it passed and worried about them talking about structural changes etc.

2) Would clear my injector stacks in the engine bay of the little spanner shelves on either side of the engine and I would not have to modify

So I was thinking which would be the best way to go?

Thanks for your help,
T54

just clear your horns its way less work - thats the way the factory did it - so manythings will hit if you raise it, if its done neatly it will pass no problems

forgot to say the trans raies kit is used to lower the car but keep the wheels straight on a swing axle car

Cool, that is what I was thinking anyway. Did you find the arms I left on your back doormat?

I do not know which mounts you are using, but I installed a set of CB rhino mounts along with a Moore mid mount and Berg traction bar, made a world of differance in the(IRS) car. When it leaves the line there is no wheel hop and yet you are able to drive it on the street.
Hope this helps, Mike
