Beetle drag racing from Brazil!!!
BR_look - May 21st, 2009 at 07:49 PM

I've just added a couple of quick posts to my Beetle-blog on the latest drag event from Brazil! This time it was on a 1/8th mile track. There are photos and videos there, so have a look and let me know what you think!

Also, does any one know, just for comparison, what the record is for an Aussie street turbo Beetle over the 1/8 mile?

Hi, my car is a German made 1973 Beetle 1300 with a late model twin port 1600. I'm in the process of installing twin Webers, eletronic ignition and lots of other bits and pieces. But mainly I gotta fix a couple more things to get the Beetle through the roadworthy and registration! Can't wait to drive it again!!

And here is just a bit of background info on myself. I was born in Brazil in 1979 and migrated to Australia (Victoria) back in 1995. I fell in love with old veedubs as a child. My dad is my main inspiration. Back in Brazil, dad owned many nice veedubs (VW Variant, Beetle 1500, Brasilia just to name a few). Me and dad were gonna buy a Beetle to restore and modify, but sadly dad died of cancer in September 2008. So I decided to buy a Beetle anyways and modify it, in his memory.

My plan for my Beetle is to turn it into a street/drag car, brazilian style (hence the name "BR-look", as in brazilian look). I want to put a 3 liter type4 motor in it!!

Hey sorry to hear about your dad.
keep the pics and updates of your car coming.
Also if you have friends back in Brazil, get some info on their cars for us all.

The best my car has gone is 6.7 @ 104 mph

Thanks guys. I have two cousins in Brazil who are currently restauring a 1962 Beetle 1200. They completely stripped the car appart and it's now mostly back together. They are currently working on the engine, restoring it to it's original 1200cc's. My mother's cousin has a mint 1963 Beetle 1200 too. He bought it brand new back in 1963 and it's only done 120,000 original k's!! He only drives it to the local market (he's in his early 60's and retired). I'm currently gathering photos and info on their cars so I can post them on my blog!!

Yet another update. I spent most of Sunday working on my Beetle and installing the twin carbies and accessories. I haven't finished yet, hopefully I can finish this week so I can finally register the Beetle!

There is a guy in Europe that has a buggy fitted with a 3litre type4 n/a motor. On the latest dyno run, the car made 300hp at the rear wheels with no NOS!!!

Thanks for the link and cool vids.
What kind or cars are those ones that are a fast back style?
Sounds like an inline 6 cylinder engine?
