Lone Beetle at Heathcote
sauron - May 24th, 2009 at 09:33 PM

Took the LOTR Beetle to Heathcote raceway today for a test n tune only to be met with over 200 hundred entries, usually there is about 40 to 50 cars running and even the organizers were blown away by the turn up.
I think it was because Calder is closed (due to Tax problems) but I hope it was a one off thing because I paid $50 and got 2 runs. I recon at least half the field were VL Commodores driven by young men with arabic names, anyway I'm happy because I broke into the 12s with a 12.82 @ 98.54mph and 12.91 @96.61mph.
It was also fun to see those young commodore drivers who had laughed and made fun of the Beetle while in the line up, stop laughing when I beat two of their mates.

Were you able to get any footage?

coletrickle - May 25th, 2009 at 07:09 PM

nice work.as for being the only beetle there thats the way you want it,if habib and his mates beat u big deal they can say they beat a beetle but if you beat them let them try and live it down!

Nice work MC

you must be rapped going into the 12's.
what did you 60'ft?
post some pics and info.

sauron - May 25th, 2009 at 09:50 PM

Thanks guys, 60ft bit slower than Portland 1,61 sec (1.5 sec. at Portland) but 8th mile the same as Portland 8.1 sec, I did have a some wheel spin of the line, obviously better traction at Portland.
I went by myself and I don't own a video camera so the only pics I took were when I was standing around in the line waiting to have a run. I'm not sure how to post photos yet but will try.

Congrats for breaking into the 12's. Thats a quick car you have there!
When are you going out next?

I have two dates that I have listed in the VWCV club magazine for test and tunes, they are June 21st and July 19th at Heathcote, that gives us 3 1/2 weeks to get our cars ready. Their are certainly a few of us Victorians preparing for Warwick so lets get together and support each other, even if you don't have a car ready (yet) come along and cheer.

BR_look - May 27th, 2009 at 07:11 PM

Great idea!! Hopefully my Bug will b ready in time, can't wait to race again!!

Congratulations on getting in to the 12's Michael. You've developed a good reliable car there.

Jesus,

The only time I've seen that many people at Heathcote is when there is a big meet on.
Wow go MC!!

Grey 57 - May 28th, 2009 at 09:27 PM

 congrats on breaking into the 12's MC. Nice pic

sauron - June 17th, 2009 at 09:41 PM

Just a quick reminder that a few of us are heading up to Heathcote this Sunday (21st) for a test n tune. The weather looks like it will be good and if it isn"t too crowded we can hopefully get some good runs in.
