vwsteve - September 10th, 2009 at 06:31 AM

1303Steve - September 10th, 2009 at 09:02 AM

here comes a can of worms

STOCK - September 10th, 2009 at 10:13 AM

It does say EVERY day......man this could get difficult.....

So is it street reg. or every day or x km/per week, or maybe to the shops occasionally or.......???
I know there's some hot streeters so surely reg. is enough??

and are we talking NA or all power adders?

Isnt the orange Penrose beetle reg'd?

dangerous - September 10th, 2009 at 12:01 PM

There should be no can of worms about this at all.
The question sai DAILY DRIVER, thats all there is to the statement.

Dont care about legality, dont care about rego or aspiration.

If you drive it daily it is a daily driver. Sheish.

HappyDaze - September 10th, 2009 at 12:20 PM

OK, that may have removed one can of worms - here's another! Define FASTEST. Is it fastest top speed, or fastest over 1/4 mile, or maybe fastest around a circuit?

Cheers, Greg

Stanley - September 10th, 2009 at 12:21 PM

surely a DAILY DRIVER has to be reg'd and legal

Yes my orange oval is street registed with engineer reports . Has run 10.49 @ 132mph , but WOULD NOT comply with this post just yet as it is not daily driven .
The oval is being reassembled for Warwick in full street trim and will be daily driven after this event .
The oval will not be very fast this year as it will be detuned for ULP .

StenGuns - September 10th, 2009 at 01:03 PM

My R36 Wagon

Bug_racer - September 10th, 2009 at 01:29 PM

My Audi has run 12.6 @ 113 so far and was a daily for 2 years before the ex moved to Melbourne .

There is an Audi in Melbourne thats dynoed 377kw atws and run an 11.7 @ 131 mph . When he was renovating he had roof racks on it to carry plasterboard and stuff !!

If its VW only and not a VAG car then APMitchels R32 is the fastest I know of running 11.9 @ 120 mph .

1303Steve - September 10th, 2009 at 01:32 PM

Hi

To me daily driven is maybe 5,000-10,000 ks per year, to be driven on the street the car MUST be legally registered, we don't want to encourage unsafe practises on the street.

Maybe allowances for a tyre change for the track or have times for radials or slicks.

Steve

yours is very fast on the round track Greg

chunks54 - September 10th, 2009 at 06:42 PM

Whatever the details, driving ANY quick bug on a daily basis deserves a big thumbs up - when my bug was n/a and in a lower state of tune (ran low 14's) I drove it daily for a while and it was a lot of fun, buut a bit of an anmial in the wet.

Great acheivement.

Dak-A-Tak - September 10th, 2009 at 06:49 PM

I really don't care at all ! they all will brake !! Good to see Col out there but browny points , Why !! I bet his ears are ringing after driving to willowbank (what interior).

Like Dave said a daily driver can be anycar like Rods ida48 ,I could drive it everyday to shops so that is a daily driver !!
I know Col isn't trying to shit stir but how long is a piece of string ( like the out dated Berg trophy). Just enjoy your car mate please , don't bother about Australian fasterest stuff .

typethreeking - September 10th, 2009 at 06:51 PM

according to dangerous my fastback now tuned up should be good for around 12.8 which isnt bad for a heavy tank, even if its not a daily driver i love just taking it for a spin after a bad day at work and still manages to bring a grin to my face!!! love that turbo power!!

Define legal.... Nah mate, I agree. Daily means safe, rego, plates!, legal, and safe. and.... safe.

I agree's with steve. needs to be safe. (mechanically that is... not power wise.... haha) :)

vassy66T1 - September 10th, 2009 at 08:30 PM

My 69 pick up does 12.2sec ... in around 12.2sec ... might get across the traffic lights in that time but most definitely qualifies as a daily driver ... quite possibly the slowest.

coletrickle - September 10th, 2009 at 08:43 PM

? indicates a question not a statment!Any way my car is regod daily driven i love it.It is what it is.But i was intrested in how fast other vws(aircooled) go to give me an idea as to where i'm at.If i had a cashlooker sorry callooker i could go to callook.com and see from all over the world and see how fast they go but there is no daily driver vw.com so i posted what i thought was a question and didn't get 1 answer.Time to lower my expectations again.

20bkombi - September 10th, 2009 at 09:06 PM

Kick me if you like but,,,,, the topic is Australias fastest daily driven vw. Hmmmm, for fun I might not be the fastest but i'm up there.
I do more than 5000ks a year, driven most days (who wouldn't want to), blue plated for ALL mods, and would jump in it to do 1000ks straight ( lots of fuel stops) with out even checking under it.
Would probally be the fastest and quickest registed kombi.

Dosen't realy matter i spose, but good to see fast vws out there.

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - September 10th, 2009 at 09:43 PM

Aaron definately gets my vote cause I can vouch for the amount of street use it gets. To work and home almost every single day!!

Quickest Kombi - Aaron

Daylight - second!!

I'd like to think once i have my new engine that I could half the time gap over the 1/8 to you mate!! Currently sitting somewhere around a 4.5 sec gap so if I could get my bus into the 8's I'd be totally stoked!! One hell of a diet coming up.... yes and driver could shed a bit as well!!

But yeah street driven to me is driven every day not just twice a week etc so it is basically your means of transport.

matberry - September 10th, 2009 at 10:36 PM

Reckon Mr 20B has one of the quickest and definately the most outstanding performing kombi's ON THE PLANET:!:

Dasdubber - September 10th, 2009 at 11:45 PM

I guess we're getting a little off track....but if I had to have my 2c regarding daily driver, it would be your primary mode of transport. That is you might have another car that is your "weekender", but your daily driver is what you use first and foremost - since Col's T3 van crapped its box, I am assuming the bug is his daily, pretty simple I thought. My T3 is my daily driver but will be one of the slowest cars at warwick so I guess I won't make the cut!

PS Col, well done on low 13, bring on the 12's!

Jak Rizzo - September 11th, 2009 at 08:18 AM

I give a massive hats off to the guys that drive their webber fed monsters daily, I couldn't do it anymore!

I average about 22-25000 klms per year, take the kids to school most days of the week. it earns it keep. Have had the car for 18 years so thats lots of k's.
8.3@84mph for the 1/8th, 13.0@102mph for the 1/4. 2.1sec 60ft. 1.57 around Eastern Creek, 1.13 around Wakefield. Weighs 1020kg.

Every single modification is on my Engineers certificate, my Insurance details & Rego details.

Thats great & all , but it's not VW powered. Like someone else said, massive thumbs up for the guys running their aircooled monsters everyday, even bigger thumbs up to the guys spending the time & money to turbo & inject their vw engines, love reading your buildups.

regards
Jak

2443TT - October 1st, 2009 at 10:37 PM

Im pretty sure my vw absorbs the contents of my wallet faster than anyone elses vw in Australia! This weeks expendature... over another K again... intercooler and custom oil cooler on the way finally...

FROSTY - October 5th, 2009 at 07:08 PM

Hey Col, did you win the fastest daily driver at Warwick?

matberry - October 5th, 2009 at 07:28 PM

Now it's official, the Fruitloop is the fastest streeter

Well at this years Warwick event. :)

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - October 5th, 2009 at 07:42 PM

I certainly think the pic of Mikey on the passenger window is what gave Col the edge over his competitors!!
