Hi Guys,
Any recomendations of what size cam I should put in my multi use, 2789cc pauter motor? 9.5:1 Compression, 1.4 Rockers.Don'nt want to go to
radical, Since im only using a 4 speed.
The car will be used on the street and at the strip. The car will have a bus box with a 4.57 or one of the new 4.13 r/pinions with a .89 4th.
Please let me know of your experiences.

Hi Dave,
I can't give you any specifics on street roller cams,
but I can say
with the extra "area under the lift curve" that roller cams have,
you can easily cut 20 degrees from the duration at .050",
when compared to the same duration flat tappet you would have otherwise chosen.
My current one has 265 @ .050, and with my heads, it peaks at around 7800,
but does not lay over at all when driving it, all the way to the 8400 limiter.
My first instincts say go for something with mid 250's at .050",
but that all depends on the rest of the engine combo, as you well know.
Hi Dave,
Thanks for your thoughts. Is your Cam a Pauter Cam? If so, do you know the grind number?
Reading your posts, I see that you have had alot larger cams in your motor, Does it make more bottom end with the smaller cam without to much losted
at the top?
Hi David,
Current cam is a grind from SURECAM here in Australia.
it has 265 inlet and 270 exhaust with 106 lobe centres.
It has much more own low than other combos
but to be fair, it is a differeent comp ratio and heads than my other engine.
The other engine originally had a Pauter B325 cam, and had very little down low by comparison,
and always bogged the start line before using the 2-step at a minimum of 7300.
It had 285@50 from memory and 110 LC, ..perhaps if I was aiming for more rpm than my current 8400 limit is would have worked better.
..or perhaps a closer LC...i really like the 106 number.
I changed to a Sacchetti cam that has 276/277@50(108lc)
and it was faster in the car, and made more mph through the traps.
It was better at lower rpm .
I reckon some thing around 270 would have been about right for my requirements.
New heads will probably get the 265/270 cam but with the 1.7 rockers to bump up the lift.
Thanks for sharing Your specs Dave, verry interesting.
Thanks Dave, Will let you know on what I decide on.

After some thought over a muffin, I decided to go with Don Pauter's advice on the cam, Much along the lines of Dave's advice.
A Pauter vn119, 258degrees duration at .050"
