WPVW supercharged drag bug dyno for Warwick
hypo-vw - September 29th, 2010 at 02:40 AM

Well today we managed to get Bens' supercharged drag bug to the dyno for testing and its first tune set-up. We have left the dyno with mixed emotions as the engine sounds strong and healthy , but the supercharger is supplying only 5psi boost .
we really dont know what the issue is as yet , however I have my suspicions that the old Wade supercharger that we are using is buggered. There are quite a few scratches and marks in both the impellors and the housing . This has been caused by debris entering the supercharger when used on the speedway many years ago .
At least Ben will have a strong little engine ( 2442cc 88x94 ) for Warwick this year and should get a few good runs in the 8's .
The dyno session ended with 195bhp @ the wheels with 1072lbs of tractive effort on E85 fuel on 5psi boost .
Tonight has been another working bee on my turbo oval and tomorrow I will dyno the new engine combo .

bummer Wayne

For it to only develop 5psi I would imagine the marks in the impellor and housing would have to be fairly substantial.
Can you up the speed of the blower to maybe pick up some more?

I will look into the boost problems after Warwick . Too busy now preparing my turbo oval , and Ben will still have heaps of fun learning to drive his bug the way it is . Will keep you posted on developments after Warwick

Out of curiosity what sort of airflow is the wade blower rated at and what drive ratio are you running? 2442cc might be a bit big for the blower?
