Is it necessery to use an MSD ignition with a 2276? or can you get away with just using a 009 or similar?
also on a stock 1500 gearbox with superdiff and heavy S/P, what stage kennedy clutch would be suitable?
thanks
Mick.
yes 009 will do the job
Pressure plate depends on specs, usage etc etc
009 is much cheaper than msd! Thats good, I was also looking at compufire? I have someone recommending stage 4 but I think its a bit much? I have a stage 1 and thats heavy... Its a drag racing application but with a very mild gearbox, I thought a little slippage might be a good thing?
If you are still using a clutch cable or plan on driving on the street, don't use the stage 4
you are probably right.... i was thinking stage 2 at the most.
I'm also seeking an opinion on the pro comp 6al ignition systems? has anyone used them? i have come across a kit with MSD coil,MSD billet distributor
and the pro comp 6al box but am unsure of this system all working together? any opinions? I definatley can't afford all MSD.
also what would you guys choose?
the above package?
pertronix ignitor?
pertronix flame thrower?
009?
compufire dis-ix?
'Stage 2 at the most' is a good start IMO.
As for ignition, I think you'll get as many opinions as there are ignition systems.
I got an msd set up 6-al, leads, coil. distributors.
Bought off eBay from my supercharged set up but can't fit it!
$550 the lot with postage. Pm me I'm in melbourne if your interested.
i have an msd dizzy and blaster coil being controlled by a procomp box. it works really well. havent had any problems with it so far. i dont use the rev limiter on it though i have a stand alone bee-r 2 step limiter. i do also have a pertronics billet flame thrower dizzy which hasnt had much use for sale if your interested. i used that before i went to the ignition box. very reliable compared to standard points and dizzy. i would stay away from compufire
Mick
As long as you get rid of the points the 009 is no problem, the points can't handle above 5000 revs so fit an electronic ignition in it.
The advantage of the MSD is it has a really good rev limiting system. If your interested in buying any MSD bits I've found Jegs performance parts in
the states the cheapest and easiest to deal with.
Yes stage 2 only
Micxhael
Can you set up a rev limiter on a 009 or flame thrower?
Yea just get a rev limiting rotor arm
My msd 6al comes with a 6000rpm limiter... Make an offer!
Decent leads, a coil, dizzy and elec points will cost you over 300- you can have msd for a bit more!
As much as I would like your msd, I have a system in mind for under 300 so unless you wanna let it go for much less than what its worth unfortunately I can't afford it....
I tried the Pro Comp parts and was disapointed by the quality of ALL the stuff. Every part failed or had to be modified to work properly. I would use a 009 with Pertronics and blue coil before purchasing anything from Pro Comp. The sad part is that the manufacturer had a chance to compete with the big boys and opted for profit rather than quality. Mike
Had a 009 in my 2276 with a compufire, but the rapid advance in it was hurting the drivablty, so bit the bullit and when MSD and what a difference much nicer to drive around town.
the 009 with 2 points springs[1 extra is added after cutting it off a spare set of points] will allow 7500rpm no problem, with that gearbox I would
just use a stage 1 with a daikin disc
cheers richie
Ill second the stage 1 and daiken disc, Ive run a 12.44 sec quarter with that setup behind a 2442.
Could a kushlock disc be used? I'm a little in the dark about the difference between all these discs....

Stage 1 with a Black Magic disc... Simple and reliable.
EDIS/Megajolt ignition.... Cheap and accurate with data logging.... Something no dizzy will ever manage.
Just too many options as stated earlier...
