Tubes in slicks
1916baja - June 20th, 2011 at 03:43 PM

Hi guys, I planned on having my slicks mounted to my rims tommorow but the guy at the tyre shop tells me slicks need special tubes? I need to run tubes due to my rims being a little rough around the edges.... Are these special tubes necessary on a average powered toy drag car like mine? if so where can I get some? Preferably around brisbane.... And what are they worth?

Cheers
Mick

I use normal tubes (185 / 205) tubes in my car and have had no problems. Tubes can help in keeping tyre temperatures more stable. Just keep an eye on the angle of the valve stem after a few passes. Any angle from original means they have turned and the tyres need to be screwed to the rim
An alternative is to use them tubeless and use some tyre sealant eg Slime or dish washing liquid on the inside of the tyres to seal them - H
