I have had to convert my circut car back into a drag car for Warwick as the new car is still not ready . I had a 2443 cc engine laying here that I used @ Portland this year to run a 7.28 sec pass and have now installed it into my '75 L bug . I was on the dyno last Saturday and with 175 HP of nitrous and almost 15:1 comp , the engine made 296 HP at the wheels before I melted a head . I have Welded the Autocraft head , machined it , rebuilt the engine and lowered the comp to 12.1:1 . I was on the dyno yesterday and the end result was 306 HP with a 200 shot at the wheels . This is almost 400 HP from the engine and I am now set for Warwick with a new spare transmission and 4 full nitrous bottles , ROD.
Holy Batman!!
Rod , what can i say , but holy shit , best you also pack some more tyres
And steel underwear.....
Nice one Rod, glad to see you recovered from the torched head trouble.
Cheers Col
i was thinking today about your new car how finished it would be
it is a car you should NOT rush ... but you know this
so what times do you think this will run now???
Thats huge, dose that mean that your loosing nearly 100 hp through the trans.
The initial post says 200 NOS then you say 175?
also how in the he'll do you loose 100hp through the gearbox??
No Nitrous
...and with 175 of gas:
That should get pickup Rodney.
insane! I love it.
about time you gave it some real amounts of gas.
how much slower do you expect to go.hahah.
should be fast . rocket rod again...
i can't wait to see it bombing the tyres.
see you at warwick./
Hope you don't have the axle tramp you had last year Rod or you'll need a tranny for each bottle of gas lol
Damm you'll be quick this year even if you havent layed off the pies like Ross keeps telling you hahaha
Dave , thanks for posting the dyno sheets . The first sheet was from the Saturday session and you can see that the engine made 198 hp with a 42mm
venturie , as raced @ Portland this year , and now it made 206 hp with a 45.25mm venturie . Unfortunatly I have now had to loweer the comp. to 12.1
and now I have dropped to 185 hp @ the wheels .
The next sheet was also the Saturday session and it made 296 hp and then melted the head . I am still not quite sure why it melted as the engine was
not lean , so I think I am @ the limit of what the VW engine can handle . I am still not that confident that the fuel was up to spec as well .
I have now lowered the comp and ended up with 306 rear wheel hp with a fresh drum of fuel and I am happy with the tune up . I am not confident that
the transmission will last and the clutch will do too much more work so I have some spares with me . I am getting 121 rear wheel hp from a 200 shot of
gas and this will be my limit unless I can source some larger jets . I should not have any axle tramp issues as I have changed the BF goodridge semi
slick tyres to a Mickey Thompson drag slick , and have installed a new cro-moly kafer bar , see you on the north side of the border , ROD.
Hope you haven't worn Jason's dyno out............I need to get the Cooper Porsche down there soon. I want to find out how good a job you did on
those 356 heads, and to tune the Webers & ignition.
Enjoy Warwick, Rod, and go quick!
Sounds like it could be a busy weekend ahead in your pit area Rod!! Need a hand yell out!!

Good job Pete and Lisa!! That video captures everything Rod stands for - use and abuse!!
Nice vid Lisa and Pete.....I wish you guys got some more sales out of the previous years DVD's to produce one again this year (I can undersatnd why
not though due to the time involved!). My 3 year old son Kai has pretty much got the previous ones on rotation through our DVD player non stop!
Well done on giving it everything Rod - a great time and certainly entertaining!
