Golf R32 runs 11.12@123mph!
motha - October 28th, 2011 at 08:35 PM

From WSID last Wed. night street meet!!!

This would definately come close, if not "BE" the fastest true street VW in Aust.

Street tyres, full weight. Very little, if any maintenance required & definitely not a temperamental old mole either!

Yes I know it has a R36 engine with twin turbo's & would of cost a bomb ($$$$$) to build, but its still fast in anyone's eyes!!!

Good to see the watercooled brethren pulling their finger out and building some very quick bits of gear!! All the potential is there to go fast just needs somebody with the desire to mod it and go run some quick numbers!!

Nice one!!!!!

Very fast car no doubt. Well done.

I have to say it though, and no disrespect to the car, owner or mechanics that built it, it looked dull on the track, no doubt taking it relatively easy off the line to protect driveline.

Here's some similarly quick aircoolers, the one in the right lane is a streeter (in the states I realise) but still a turbo car for comparison. :)

Nice work guys! Very fun car, it may not look as entertaining but I recon it would be damn fun to drive.

Please keep us posted with your developments!

It may look dull on the track, but theres a bunch of faster cars that also appear like this on the track.

Just recently at a local TnT I was racing my ute & there was several 9 & a couple of 8 sec cars which just squated & took off. No mess, no fuss, straight as an arrow & looking like theres no enjoyment to it. My own car incl.!

But to be there & watch these kinds of cars haul arse. Its very entertaining, Especially when sitting around 3/4 track!

I knew people would start to post up aircoolers & i love it, but its too hard to compare a US "street car" with a Aust. car. A US "street car" only has to have chassis #'s, working lights & it can still be a full tube'd race car & registered

Eg. below

These cars competed in the recent HotRod Drag Week. 5 days, 5 tracks, 1000+miles & no trailers!!! & the local cops love the event & cars too! (totally different perception than what it is here!!!!!)

This one had run the first 6 sec pass last year on the last day & last run of the event. Streer car? I'd say so, to be able to be driven throughout the event.

In OZ. not a chance!!!

7 sec streeters!

Heres a link to a bunch of video's from this years event

Just to keep the aircoolers happy.

I think this is the fastest "true street" beetle. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Car had been shipped over from the UK to show the yanks how its done.

Fastest run I could find 9.23@152.8mph

Old chevs hell yeah!! Agree with you on your comments thus far about street car here vs the states. A better comparison would be the uk vs here!!

Got any idea how much cash old mate spent on the r32? I've read the build thread on wvw forum and it is impressive what has been done. Thought it would have been faster being what is under the hood but I guess driveline has it's limitations!!

Cheers buddy

Yeah, the street rules in the US are so far fetched to here in OZ, its a bit stupid to compare the too!

but I do agree with you on the class system.

Definitely a FI, NA & other powered class is the go for sure!!!

As far as the R32. To be honest, I don't even want to think about the $$$$ invested in this car.

From memory a HPA twin turbo kit use to start at around $25K US. Then do the DSG upgrades, brakes, suspension etc etc. Plus fit a R36 engine!!!!

Add in the purchase cost of the R32 5dr DSG & theres a $100+K car for sure!

But thats speculation!!!!

considering the weight of the car to around that 1300 to 1500kg THATS A GOOD time....
