Old school FI parts. What are they?
pete wood - December 21st, 2011 at 08:08 AM

Hi all,
grabbed these throttle bodies off Flintstones the other day. Wondered if someone might be able to tell me who made em?

I assume they are old speedway bits with the tops being used for filters rather than open ram tubes for drag or circuit racing. Would I be right?

Speedway,If they don't have a name cast in them somewhere they will most likly be a copy made at the local foundary. When i'm back in bris i'll make some enquiries.A freind of a freind has a lot of VW speedcars so i'll check with him.

pete wood - December 21st, 2011 at 08:42 AM

they are almost identical to the Enderle stuff, but without the name on em.

coletrickle - December 21st, 2011 at 08:52 AM

Yep genuine Enderle?hillborn?made in Tamworth:smilegrin:

pete wood - December 21st, 2011 at 09:14 AM

hehe. It's speedway stuff isn't it.

Pete, Yes they are old school and yes they are speedway, designed to run on methanol. You can still buy Hilborn stuff new from the states, pump, barrel and cut off valves etc. All the stuff can pretty well can be mixed and matched (except the throttle bodies) as most secondhand stuff I have come across are mongrel sets.
I have a pair of Hilborn throttle bodies for a '50s old school project in the corner of the shed.
PM me your email address and I can send you some info.

Cheers Dave

Awesome. I'm thinking about converting them to run EFI. Do you think they'd be ok for that?

SuperOwen - December 21st, 2011 at 01:48 PM

Whats the intended use? By the time you mod them for injectors, tps etc etc why not just use CB throttle bodies?

pete wood - December 21st, 2011 at 03:10 PM

a. CB TBs will be more exy, I can make almost any and if I can't I have mates who can.
b. CB TBs do not have the old school cool that these things have.

Sorry, but they scream, "build a ratrod"

SuperOwen - December 21st, 2011 at 04:23 PM

Cool, anythings posiible. Might be easier to find info on v8 efi converted hillborn setups. Much more common obviously

That'd be cool! You could modify the nozzle holes already there for injectors, flat edge one side of the throttle blade for a TPS, then away you go.

Most Enderle stuff has big enough throttle bores to drown an elephant, but they might be sized for a 1200 or something, they look small, is the throttle bore diameter big enough for what you want?

pete wood - December 22nd, 2011 at 07:50 AM

45mm throats. So that's good enough for a mouse motor of some sort. 1600-1835 would probably do the trick.

RodPenrose - December 22nd, 2011 at 08:00 AM

Pete , these will be mounted on a 60 degree angle and will foul with the bodywork in a beetle . Mount them on a head and you will see the angle , ROD.

pete wood - December 22nd, 2011 at 11:16 AM

Yeah thanks rod. I realised that when I first saw them. Houndog has something like this on it. Correct?

p.s. I was thinking of something a little more radical than a beetle anyway.

You've got a long while till you can afford to retire :dork:

Mate, as you can probably imagine, time and money are two things I'm not flush with at present. I've got to two club race days this year. That's all. So even if I built something, having time to race it is another thing. I've also got about 3 bass guitar builds on the go at present and another 2 planned in the near future. I think I'll see some of that stuff out first, part with a buggy and then build something else. Plenty of time to dream and plan though and by the time I get to it, I should be pretty good at paint jobs. ;)
