A friend of mine has a Valiant Charger that has 270 rwhp - how many rwhp or fly hp do i need in my 1970 / 66 chassis beetle to beat his ass? it has a
pretty sweet stock 1600 with swingarm box.
I know I could do the calcs myself but I thought I would throw it out there to hear some entertaining answers.
I have no cash for this at the moment as usual but it remains a dream that sits in my shed and does the odd bit of grass circle work on my new acreage
in Katherine NT.
ps heaps of room for old dubs and free dub parts if anyone needs to store them or wants them gone!!! i.e donate them to my cause. ;-)
271
130-150 will do it
what times does he do down the 1/4
150ish atw would show him a clean pair of heels!!
95-100hp and take a whole lot of weight out of the car !
Charger V8s weigh 1460kg, or 3210lbs, + 230lbs for driver and a 1/4 tank = 3540lbs/271HP = 13.06.
13.0 = approx low13s, probably at around 100mph, assuming he can get traction (Hoosier Quick-time's work good under Chargers on the street.......or
so I've heard), and he has a diff around 4.11 with a 3000stall. If he has street tyres and a 3.23 diff with street stall, then he should only pull
low/mid 14s.
In other words......HE'S TOAST!!!
You guys are all absolute legends, thanks for the info and entertainment!! I personally love the "271" answer, that made me chuckle a lot, but so
true!!!
So if I can get my hands on a 2 litre of some sort, do a rebuild with head porting and stuff done by Craig Brown, then get twin 44's or a single
holley 4 barrel, some extractors, a digital igniton system, a berg cam and crank, k&n filters, would that do it? thats about $4000 - $5000 just
there if I get the build done right, postage, labour, parts etc. or I could get one of those turn key jobbies from turbosRus in the states for about
$6500 plus postage.
the only other drama is the gearbox, im pretty sure flatout my bug only does about 140ish, I might need a different final drive or just get another
gearbox, and that is where the build goes out of control. maybe I should just nitrous it, and hope for the best.
he hasnt run it down the quarter btu i reckon I could convince him if I was going to go racing.
It has a sound system installed that would weigh a fair bit. its a 383 big block VF or VG regal 770 that has had the custom treatment, it is a very
nice car, however would be nicer in the rear view of any volkswagen I was driving.
To Craig Torrens, if your car in the profile pic is Alan Agyiks old one, then my beetle is the poorer cousin to yours, as mine has the 66 chassis and 70 body, where yours has the 70 chassis and 66 body. it would be crazy to get them together for a photo one day!!!
His is definitely an Ex Alan Agyik car. He bought it off a mate of mine, who bought it from Alan. My mate was suggesting I buy one of Alan's other cars, presumabley that might now be yours.
Yep, my ragtop is the ex Dasdubber beast.
Well Craig, your ragtop has a sibling in Katherine NT and is still going strong. I have a few things to still do to it, but its still registered and running and still looks awesome. I bought it from DasDubber in 2006 and thinking back the time has flown by. I just can't bring myself to get rid of the old girl, even tho I am more of a Kombi guy, due to my height (6'3"). But there's nothing like an old beetle, lowered with a big aircooled motor in the back!
I think I have the wheels that came off your car....they were the wide 5 early rims with the later style of hubcaps !
Nice, I have the wide 5, 5 spoke black centres, empi i think. yours is discs all round is it? mine is drums.
Yep discs all round.......the wide 5's I bought off Al were for my 58.
