OK so for all of you who like me aren't able to be in Sydney for the drags due to work etc etc and want to know who is running what times etc etc
this is thread for those of you who are there to put the times, pics, stories, carnage in.
Sitting here at work on a miserable day doing very little I need something to keep me entertained so let the info and pics begin!!
16.3 fastest yet
Well I've done a quick cull of the photos I've taken (about 500), but there are still a lot so forgive me. Also if there aren't anyof your car I
apologise, they might be sitting in some of the others that didn't come out. Also please forgive me if I get names wrong.
Let's start:
Being an owner of an L Bug, I did like the battle of the L Bugs, and there were quite a few there.
Ben Ford's car looked the goods and seemed to put in consistent good times:
Then there was Mr Birchallwho kept getting quicker causing him to break out a few times:
here he is vs Matt Berry
And vs Dangerous Dave
Dangerous seemed to have an issue in the morning but came out strong and I think had the second fastest time of the day
Here it was a grudge match vs Rod Richardson (?). Dangerous would have had him, except he headed for the wall and backed off:
The CBB cars looked and sounded as good as ever:
And then there was Crazy Col
And CT in the Oval which looked great:
And Daimo who seemed to get quicker and quicker, and I think got into the 15s?
Davo's (?) New drag buggy seemed to be going nicely:
Then there was the showdown between the new drag buggies. This is how it went:
My new favourite car is all down to the engine. 2 litre turbo, street driven and consistently in the 13s from memory. The number plate says it all
"Eat 911"
The ex-VWMA drag rat looked good, but I think he broke out a few times in the round robin.
Flamin Tiki looked awesome and as I was standing behind it on Friday night at the pizza get together I can assure you it is noisy as well:
This is Flamin Tiki with Sezer's buggy that has all sorts of fun around the corners at Wakefield, but it seemed to be behaving itself today:
And just to prove I took a photo or two of a water cooled car:
I think it made the final for its class?
Various Gringos:
A buggy I quite liked and it seemed to go well.
Jak Rizzo's WRX powered Beetle looked great and performed well and consistently. Jak won his class because he was consistent, and made sure of it in
the final by being smart as well and backing off to ensure he didn't break out:
More L Bug action, this time Steve Natoli vs Rod Penrose (who was running nitrous I think). Either way he was very, very fast.
I've fallen in love with this notch, so you'll have to put up with some photos. It was quick too:
Rose appeared to have trouble getting all the power down early, but got quicker I think as the day wore on:
A nice looking and quite quick oval:
Neil Penboss was quick all the time, but every now and then it was a bit of a handfull, but he could be relied upon for wheelies:
There was a Purvis in the show and shine:
More of Rod Penrose in the L Bug (I think he was probably third fastest for the day???)
Unfortunately Rod couldn't get the New Beetle ready in time, but he brought it along so people could have a perve. He did have the lid open later,
but I didn't get a photo, so someone else will have to post one:
Rose among thorns......
Rudi vs Wayne
See, another watercooled photo:
Shaun was out there giving the new engine a thrashing:
Shrapnel looked good:
Henry Spicak had a number of runs, but I think he broke something:
Another L Bug, this time Steve C who ran consistent 16s
Fortunately he didn't get beaten by the Kombi:
Another CBB Car:
Something you don't see every day:
The V8 powered contestants:
Craig had one run with the Vee down the track, just so he could say he used it!
I think this was the VW powered final (won by the L Bug I think):
Some more of the new VWMA drag buggy with Aaron Roberts at the wheel I think:
And finally, Wayne Penrose who I'm pretty sure was the fastest on the day, and consistently so. The car looked good and sounded good and was good:
Craig,
Great photos, great tags, great memory for all those names and great work all round.
I don't think I will need to put any of my photos up, well done
Thanks also to all the drivers and their cars and VWMA for a great day.
Kev
Yes was a great day have posted some photos on my facebook page
Drag
Photos
Show and Shine
Hi
Great day, great cars, great venue, great people, great weather.
I maybe wrong but I don't think that there were too many breakages, when you consider how far some of theses cars have come from showroom performance
it's a credit to the builders of these cars.
I think that I still prefer Warwick as a venue, at Warwick when lining up in the competitor lanes you still feel part of the action.
Thanks for the photos, I hope everyone has a safe and pleasant trip home.
Steve
we had a top time .
Rose ran good all day , no probs, she won some and lost some and did a PB .
We got home at 2am sunday morning after staying at the track after the racers to listen to the band.
and what about the weather that Craig put on .

It was another great day drag racing I did my PB of 13.474 sec at 104.22MPH, R/T .072 with 10psi boost.
I finally was getting it right at the end of the day with my last to runs at 13.557sec & 13.506
Thanks heaps Craig and every one for coming along next year should be even bigger. What a turn out I think Craig said there was around 96
competitors.

Great job Craig and all who assisted in setting up this meet.
I ran a PB of 10.537@122.8 and had a ball
Great pics Craig
its hard to see whats happeneing when yr racing
I lost the first round to Col
so i just gave the car heaps and ended up with 3 break outs didnt want to back off was having too much fun
Thank You To Craig Hughes and all his helpers for there efforts. It takes a lot of work to get events organised particularly from another state.
Thank You to Sydney Dragway. The track has really been working hard to make sure we have a great racing facility and well prepared track.
Unfortunately the weather has held them back substantially. It is great events like the VW Showdown with support from competitors and spectators that
will allow us to keep racing at Sydney.
Thank you to all competitors. Without everyone turning up and supporting the event we wouldn't be able to get together and share our love of
Volkswagens and Drag Racing. It doesn't matter what you drive, what your ET was or what your MPH was as long as you get out there and have some fun.
We can't forget to thank all the spectators. It is great to see so many people outhere supporting the racers and the event.
Finally I would also like to thank all the Guys and girls from CBB Racing. Without the help and friendship of you all I would not be able to race.
Mike Kristen deserves the greatest thanks. Mike has put his own racing racing aside to get some more cars on the track. Your help, guidance and
friendship is greatly appreciated.
Bum in seat time is very short lived and always provides plenty to learn from. I look forward to some better performances with some more track time
and some more tweeking.
WOW looks like a great event!!!!
hey i see turbo Mick in his buggy what times did he run? ... i know he runs 9.2's all day in the 1/8 = 1/4 high 13's?
i didn't see any pic's of Frosty how did his big bore killer...1776 go?? man that is my fav bug atm!
Great photos guys here are a few of mine
WOW! Thank you guys for sharing those amazing pictures!
After having some trouble with some broken rockers i ran a PB of 10.70 and 126.1mph.
I really have to thank Mike Kristen for taking time out to go with me back to the CBB workshop
to rob the rockers off his Ghia engine, so I could continue racing...the only set in the country!
Thanks also to geoff Scott, for his crew assistance over the week and, and to Craig hughes and WSID for a fabulous event!
A big congrats to my man Keith Haeusler.
Racing his Beetle, all steel and glass in only it,s third outing, he reeled of a 12.26 at 107mph.
Not bad for a normally aspirated car built in a home garage!
Awesome effort mate.
Cheers Col
