Very impressive work on that blog. I was surprised to see a New Beetle bodied drag car set up for a rear engined air-cooled turbo motor!

are they uni joints they use on the gearboxes? Is it some made in house swing axle conversion?

Yep, Dave Folts swing axle conversion for kombi boxes.
