Hi Guys and Gals,
Anyone know of a suitable alternative mirror to the wrapped textured plastic rearview mirror for the 68+ beetle?
The backing of the mirror is dying on mine and getting very spotty so it needs replacing. Real hard to see with in low light or when its raining.
I like the look of the chrome ones which you can get for the earlier beetles but they look like they have a different mounting method on the roof.
Anyone seen chrome (or stainless) versions of the 68+ mirrors?
I like the style of E but I currently have (and guess need) G.

Hey, hey Mark,
My understanding is: by 1968, US Design/Safety Regulations, stipulated that the interior rearview mirror needed to be collapsable - to reduce the risk
of injury to passengers. Volkswagen then introduced the plastic mirror to all markets in 1968.
You should be be to find an after market chrome or stainless mirror from any Hot Rod website.

Thanks Bryce. Thought that might be the case.
I'll check out some of the hot rod sites.
Cheers.
Be careful!
i ordered an aftermarket mirror from the states, but because the 'neck' of the mirror that mounts to the body is off centre, the US one had the neck
off centre in the other direction. (IE: there is left hand or right hand drive variant of the mirror).
The mirror i got from the US couldn't be used, as the neck offset repositioned my mirror to knock into the sun visors... so its no good.
Ahhh cool. Thanks for the heads up.
