Recommendation for a SA based Upholsterer
MissTB - November 22nd, 2014 at 11:36 AM

I like the look of the TMI kits, and Im happy to order them in, but I dont think I could do a professional job installing them. I want to redo the seats, roof and panels in a 1971 superbug. Anyone have someone to recommend? I contacted a guy who said if I purchased the materials its would cost me $1.2k max, but he didnt seem very professional. Im in the NE, I'm not looking to penny pinch, but would hate to spend $1k in materials and have it look like a $2 job.

Are you close enough to get the car over Melbourne way for a good job? There is a few very good Vw specialist trimmers over that way.

Had mine done by Steve at Stateside Upholstery at Nuriootpa. Bloody brilliant job If you are going to the VW show at Elder park next weekend I will have my Oval there you can check out his work. More than impressed

I have had Allan Smith Motor Trimmers do work on my cars.....he is brilliant. Located on Regency Road near Arndale.

Thanks so much for all your advice. I'll try Allan first, he's a bit closer. Would you guys mind giving me an estimate on how much I should expect to pay if I supply the TMI seats, panels, roof liner and clips?

I just spoke to Allan, what a lovely man! He is all booked out until Feb, but gave me a price guide. I love it when you find someone who is helpful and offers to help. What a pity, I really wanted the car finished this year. I got the impression he is a craftsman worth waiting for though.

no probs.....here's a few photos of his work! You won't be disappointed!! He is the best that I have come across. Place some pics of your trim when completed.

Make sure you order the correct TMI seat kits, as their year models are different to ours. For our 71 Beetle which has no headrests, we had to order 1967 TMI seat covers.
