felt channel clips on the windows... any clues
vickie - December 29th, 2006 at 02:15 PM

we have just taken the window mech apart and in the old felt channels there were little 3cm rectangular clips in the felt, these of couse have all degraded.

when searching CIP and westcoast metric etc i can only find mention of felt channel clips for a 1965 beetle onwards.

mine is a 1963, did we have the wrong felt channels in the car to begin with, or are the clips no longer made for pre 65 cars.

Any suggestions or info greatly appreciated.
thanks

Looks like they may have made them different in 1965...
Aussie beetles didn't change until 1968 model beetles.

Someone here should have some early ones
surely someone has stripped an early beetle....

I soaked all My late model clips in fishoil... for months..
so they wouldn't rust... I still have some in the jar...

I would have thought they were the same....
but I've never pulled an early beetle apart....

the late ones are made of spring steel...
I could measure one for You if you want...

the 63 clips are 1.5cm square and have a lip either side of 1cm, on the lip the have c shape indents.

Thanks lee, the picture is the clips from CIP, these don't give dimentions, but are they the same as yours and are yours 1.5cm square?? if so they would work, i'm sure.

You dont needto use the clips nowdays because of contact glue

fit and bend the felt channel to the glass out of the car so you get the corner the right shape align the bailey channel with the front enge of the glass where it slide up in the 1/4 window then bend teh other end to fitt he glass

fit the channel to the door with some contact glue

then fitt he glass intop its cavityu and slide into the up position and lock it in place and allow the glue to dry

NO more clips required
