is this just cosmetic and will go on any bug ( i have a 63) does it literally cover the thingy that holds the gear stick in place ????

It will cut-down the distance you move the stick by about 40%. The alloy bit fits on the bottom and you orignal part bolts on top so you would see a shinny bit near the floor.
