After 8 years of covering my pristine seats in my beetle with sear covers, I thought I would take the covers off.
To my horror, the seats are all split and torn! (I used to take my dog, but didn't think anything would get damaged ).
So are there any aftermarket vinyl covers that are replica's to the original vw ones? I have a 70' 1500 beetle, with highbacks on the front. There
black too.
Also whats a ball park figure for an auto trimmer to do the job? (If I supply the vinyl ).
Or should I not bother retrimming, and just get another rear seat? The drivers seat is a bit worse for wear, so I think replacing that too might start
to get costly.
Thanks
Rob
Re trim your origional seat using TMI products available from Vintage Vee Dub at Campsie 9789-1777 the quality is second to none and they
are made in origional type material
I had a set front and rear fitted to my type 3 for over 10 years had heavy kid traffic on them as well just used to wash down with warm soapy
water every now n again they still looked great after 10 years and there easy to fit i did use some heavery duty tie cord to secure them rather
than the finer cord supplied
Thanks vw54, I think that's the go. Now debating whether I tackle it myself or get a trimmer.
Its pretty easy a pair of pliers to bend the tabs and some good quality venitian blind cord leave them in the sun for a while helps as well in the
stretching process get some heavy duty cloth to cover the springs and old horse hair stuffing to add strength to stop springs popping up into yr
arse
paint the frames before you fit the covers and they look tops
That sounds like a pretty straight forward process, I'll give it a go.
Thanks again vw54
