Maybe a stupid question, but my front seats don't move at all and seem to have seized up or somewhat rusted in place. Any ideas how I get them out or get them to move? Thanks
spray the tracks with Inox,WD40 or similar, get someone in the seat holding the release and jump in behind, put both feet on the seat bracket and push,if this doesn't work give the tracks a few whacks with a hammer and repeat.
Check that it has not been welded in place if the retaining latch broke.
If the seat slides forward but will not slide all the way off, there is a tab you need to push in or pull out near the front of the outside runner.
yep the TAB is to be checked in 68 n later cars on outside on bugs n inside on type 3s
but get a mate to sit in back seat while you lift adjuster and kick the seat runner forward
never had one i couldnt get out with some FOOT power
If you have the later seat runners with the plastic sleeves on them, I found that it helps if you pull the plastic bits rearwards as far as possible before trying to push the seat forwards. Sometimes the plastic bits can get jammed up in the rails and stop the seat. Otherwise, as others have said, just get in the back seat and push with your feet!
What model car are we talking?
Beetles used a few different style runners over the years and theres alot of different VW models
Joel, you know that we all assume that it's a Beetle because this is predominantly an aircooled forum! Also, I can't imagine a Golf with seized seat runners.
Well this is true, although Mk1 and I think Mk2 Golf use the same bastard runners as 74 on Bugs.
Thanks guys. The old get in the back and kick while my mate sat in the front with the lever turned worked a treat! Who would've ever thought?
see it WORKED
